I graduated in May of 2012 with my Bachelor of Arts degree in French language from Rutgers University with minors in European studies and Psychology. I've traveled to Europe numerous times and studied abroad in Paris the summer of 2009 where I lived with a French host family in the 4th arrondissement. My methods would be to listen to what the student specifically needs to focus on and not stray away from the ultimate goal which would be getting a better grade in the class. I also have numerous grammar and phrase books and other materials that could help further a student's understanding of the language.
As for those students who are older or those who are not currently enrolled in school, there are still many ways to help improve your French. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
