I have known I wanted to teach math my entire life. I earned a B.S. in Mathematics and an M.A. in Education from Virginia Tech and went on to get my Ph.D in Math Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. I have known I wanted to teach math my entire life. I earned a B.S. in Mathematics and an M.A. in Education from Virginia Tech and went on to get my Ph.D in Math Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. While in New York, I was an adjunct professor for three years at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and the Fashion Institute of Technology and then went on to work as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Dominican College for six years. My family decided to move to Virginia last year and I am now working full time as a Mathematics Lecturer at Shenandoah University. I am also the Director of the Mathematics Enrichment Center at the university and manage a group of about ten math tutors. All together, I have about ten years of experiencing teaching math at the college level teaching classes ranging from remedial algebra through Calculus II.

There is nothing that makes me happier than watching and being a part of student success. I am finding that I have a bit of spare time and would love to get into individual tutoring! I believe that every student can learn math with the right instruction and especially love watching my struggling students reach success. I have much experience dealing with different kinds of learners and am able to tailor my teaching methods to student needs.

Please reach out to learn more about me and how I can help you be the best you can be in your math class or in preparation for your standardized math exam. I would love to hear from you!

An outstanding teacher!

Lydia is an outstanding, experienced teacher who really cares about her students. Her patient teaching style and extensive math and teaching background have helped my daughter understand and master challenging Algebra II concepts. In addition, she is a great role model and has inspired my daughter to sign up for more advanced math classes and to seriously consider pursuing a STEM career. We can’t thank Lydia enough for her teaching and inspiration. We give her our highest recommendation!

Wonderful, Charismatic, and Kind

Lydia taught me some very difficult calculus and trig concepts in an extremely short period of time! Two hours with her can hold the content of all of high school precalc and half a semester of college calculus. Not only is she knowledgeable, she is extremely kind, personable, and cool! Lydia is the perfect choice for a tutor! 5 stars.
