As a twenty seven year old graduate of The University of Chicago's Booth School of Business, I am capable of tutoring any student (from middle school to the graduate level). Receiving a 710 (92nd percentile) on the GMAT multiple times from 2009-2014, I am well versed on the structure, subject matter, and study habits necessary in order to obtain top tier scores on standardized tests.
In addition to the GMAT, I specialize in ACT test prep. I obtained a score of 31 on my ACT (with a perfect score, 36, in Reading Comprehension,) before beginning my undergraduate studies at the University of Notre Dame. Focusing on strategy, skill, and understanding, my students have improved up to 5 points after working with me. With small changes in study habits, patience, and some studying, I love teaching and helping others succeed.
My experience as a student allows me to better understand, connect, and teach current students of any age. My methods are dependent on my student. I customize my techniques based upon what type of student I am tutoring (visual, verbal, etc.) and student preferences (what has worked for the individual in the past, what methods their teachers use in the classroom, etc.)

Kristin has only been tutoring our 8th Grade daughter for a few weeks. She is in ET Math at Junior High doing Freshman Algebra I. A couple of months into the school year she started bringing home 'F's on tests. She's always been a straight 'A' student. The Teacher is very intimidating and has no intention of actually teaching or helping any student who is struggling. He made it plainly clear and even had the audacity to tell us our child was inferior to her peers. The week before Christmas she took her Final Math exam and brought home an 'A'! We were beyond thrilled. Kristin is to thank for this. Her patience, diligence and enthusiasm for our daughter is infectious. She is charming and really seems to know her stuff. I am clueless when it comes to math. Kristin told us our daughter does in fact know what she's doing and has no signs of being lacking in any of her math basics etc. Kristin is very punctual, reliable and has great communication skills and flexibility when it comes to scheduling tutor times. She has a very easy going and natural personality and is easy to talk to. She seems infinitely patient and uses games to make things more fun in the learning process. Kristin did a great job helping work through finance problems for business school. She was very good at breaking down the concepts into plain terms and relating it to business transactions that were understandable. Kristin is a wonderful tutor, we have worked together only for a couple of weeks but I am already feeling more confident that my GMAT goal will be achieved. She is a very dedicated, personable, and professional tutor, always pushing me to do my best and when I struggle is there to help me figure out why I got the answer and why I am not grasping certain concepts. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
With 75 questions and only 45 minutes to answer them, knowledge and efficiency are both skills necessary to score high on the English portion of the ACT. Sentence mechanics and word usage is a subject I can effectively break down and explain.
With 60 questions in only 60 minutes, the math portion of the ACT can be daunting. Although the test focuses only on mathematical concepts learned up to grade 12, many students take the test as a junior, do not take Calculus senior year, or just don't quite remember every math concept from high school.
With review, time, and thorough explanation, I help students with subjects such as Geometry, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Precalculus, and Calculus. I increased my score from a 26 to a 31, so I am confident that I can help another student do the same.
I received a 36 on the reading portion of the ACT. Understanding the meaning and purpose of every piece of literature is key for the ACT reading section. I help students look at the premise and conclusion of each reading, breaking it down to much more manageable portions. Vocabulary is also important but looking at the words surrounding any complex word can often times give the meaning of the word in question. These concepts, if mastered, have helped past students increase their ACT composite score by 2 full points within 3 weeks.
With 40 questions in 30 minutes, the ACT Science portion tests each student's critical reasoning ability within a time crunch. In the natural sciences, each student must analyze, interpret, and develop conclusions from data measured in the lab. The science portion seeks to test this skill by giving students data to evaluate. By helping with reading comprehension and teaching students how to isolate the important portions of each question, I work to increase their overall ACT Science score.
I am familiar with quadratic equations, graphing quadratic equations, combinations, substitution, matrices, and other concepts covered in Algebra 2. I am also able to help students gain additional practice if needed on concepts they are familiar with before tests or finals.
Algebra 2 can be quite confusing, but with practice I can help students gain confidence and knowledge of these complex mathematical concepts.

Geometry is the portion of mathematics concerned with shapes, angles, size, spacial properties, and relative rules between different figures. Many students find geometry hard because thinking spacially about a figure or shape can be daunting. I teach students to break each question down, isolate the important rules needed to answer the question, and solve systematically. This makes Geometry much more manageable for students, and I believe helps make geometric rules more memorable long term.

Helping increase reading comprehension and speed is so important throughout high school and college. It helps with the ACT, the SAT, the GMAT, and more. Reading a passage, summarizing a passage, then looking at the question and answer portion of a test is the strategy I use with students. Many students try to completely understand every word and conclusion after reading a passage once, and I find that to be a very difficult and intimidating way to take a test.
I believe that breaking the reading down into smaller pieces, looking up words that a student may not understand, and looking at the overall meaning of the passage increases reading comprehension much faster.
Understanding where we have come from is key to making the best decisions in the future. The world's history is diverse yet shares many similarities. I view history as a never ending story that is always new and interesting. A personal passion of my own, I love to teach others why the stories of the past are valuable to them today.
