Christopher Newport University (Biology)
A little about myself, I'm currently employed as an ESL/LEP tutor for York County. Meaning during the school year I'm actively working with a variety of students, most recently elementary children, and in conjunction with a number of teachers. In addition to working for the county, I've helped students in various capacities off and on for most of my academic career. From middle school age students to college classmates through volunteer opportunities with organizations like church and a variety of university clubs.
I've always loved the field of academics, and being able to help others in their own journey has been a great experience. I used to be exclusively passionate for collegiate level studies, however have expanded in recent years to appreciate the core fundamentals that are taught in elementary school.
Thank you for considering me as a tutor. I hope that we are able to work together and that I can help you in the future and to learn and progress in the academic arena.
I hold a B.S. Biology from CNU with most of my course focus as a pre-med student, but with experience in environmental research. My experience covers a wide range of biology courses, as well as chemical, environmental, and genetic.
I am a prodigious reader as well as a writer in my spare time. Throughout my academic career I have read and written many of the types of assignments that students will encounter.
Through my job as a tutor for the school district, I have been working with Elementary School children and focusing much of what I teach on Common Core skills and subjects.
My job as a school district tutor has given me experience in working with and on most of the elementary school curriculum.
Please feel free to contact me to see if we would work well together. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
