Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

At the school where I have been teaching for almost 14 years, I have been working with between 30-40 students each year who have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. In math, I have developed and use various multi-modal methods to help these students find success, including visual representations, process cards, audio versions of the problems, stepwise checking, and other individualized accommodations. Universal design principles as developed by the Landmark College guide my support to students with ADD/ADHD.

Algebra 1

I am an experienced middle school math teacher with extensive experience teaching algebra. I hold an MEd in secondary math education and am pursuing a PhD in math education at George Mason University.

Algebra 2

I have taught Algebra 2 and tutored Algebra 2, Trigonometry, and all other upper level math.

Geometry

I am an experienced middle school and high school math teacher. I have tutored students in geometry for the past five years. I hold an MEd in secondary math education and am currently pursuing my PhD in math education.

GRE

Tutoring for standardized tests is a speciality of mine. Together with my student, we work on test taking strategies, close reading of questions, as well as the content. Successful completion of timed, standardized tests requires knowing how to recognize and best solve a particular problem type. Each session we work to decompose and successfully solve a given problem in the most efficient way.

Prealgebra

I have extensive experience teaching middle school math to all kinds of learners. I develop individualized plans for each of my tutoring students. I hold a master's in secondary mathematics education and am in the process of finishing my PhD at George Mason University in mathematics education.

SAT Math

Using various test taking strategies and supports, along with a thorough review of the math included on the SAT, my students have had strong success in improving their scores. I have taught both SAT classes and tutored one-on-one.

Study Skills

As an experienced teacher with over 13 years of experience in middle school, I have explicitly taught study and organizational skills to my students. Additionally, I work in a school with a significant population of students who require overt consistent work on their study skills in each subject. I have had professional training including Dr. Mel Levine's All Kinds of Minds, Understanding by Design, and Universal Design.
