About Erin

I currently teach early childhood special education and am endorsed to also teach elementary regular education. Nothing is more rewarding than experiencing growth with my students.

I also love strategizing study skill plans to increase student work habits which I believe is the foundation for success. It is imperative to guide instruction based on student interests in order to motivate. Without motivation, progress is limited.

In order to develop individualized education plans, they must be standards-based and linked to SOLS. We look at the whole child including all academic subjects.

As a special educator, I am able to differentiate lessons to cater to a variety of learning styles. I have my Autism Certificate and wrote my thesis on sensory strategies to increase literacy for a cross-category of needs, in particular, ADHD. My Masters degree is in research so I have a vast amount of strategies in my repertoire.

I am available to teach several age groups and hope to help you work on whatever area needed.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

I have degrees in and am endorsed/licensed to teach both special education and general education. When developing standards-based IEPs we must do so with common core goals in mind. I have worked with special education students who are receiving services in the general education setting. Whether special education or general education, the goal is always working toward success as it relates to common core subjects, as emphasized by research-based strategies.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a public school teacher of seven years licensed to teach special education and general education. My undergrad studies focused on education through 3rd grade whereas my Master's degree was in research-based strategies to address difficulties in a variety of areas including math, reading, and writing of all ages. As an employee of the school system, I am very familiar with core standards and student expectations at the elementary level.

Phonics

My masters degree was in research-based strategies to address difficulties in a variety of areas including reading and writing. My expertise ranges across ages but as an early childhood educator, phonics is explicitly taught early on. I also have some experience in a Montessori setting where phonetics are emphasized over rote letter recognition and have helped produce very early readers.
