About Julia

Tutoring is one of the best parts of my job in education. I love meeting new students and sharing the experience of teaching/learning. My undergraduate degree is in English literature where I studied European literature and began working in the field of technical writing and tutoring. My master's degree is in adolescent literature and allowed me the opportunity to begin teaching within the classroom. I am currently working on my Ph.D. in curriculum instruction with a special emphasis in peer-to-peer interaction. I love students and am passionate about teaching.

My areas of special emphasis are, of course, writing and English-based skills. My tutoring experience includes test preparation (SAT, ACT, and GRE), college applications (both undergrad and grad), public speaking, grammar, reading/writing, etc.
Personally, I'm an enthusiast of my career and my discipline. I'm easy to work with and would be thrilled for the opportunity to help you along your academic career!

I have two degrees, including a graduate degree, in English studies. I have spent the past nine years working as a tutor for test preparation and basic English development skills (i.e. writing, reading, editing, grammar). I've worked in numerous writing centers and have taught several higher education classes. I've served as a substitute teacher for grades 6-12.

Please contact me to schedule an appointment! I tutor as a way to help finance my Ph.D. so I am also a student working towards the same goals you are. I understand that school can be tough and am thrilled for the opportunity to be of any help!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
