I've helped an AFOQT student raise his pilot score from 33 to 98, another improve his math score by 62 points, and a third elevate his math score from 39 to 76 after 1 lesson. I've helped an ASVAB student go from 22 to 59 in less than 2 weeks of tutoring. I've also helped a TEAS student earn 100% on the Math section and another raise her prior math score 25 points from a 59 to an 84.

I've helped an AFOQT student raise his pilot score from 33 to 98, another improve his math score by 62 points, and a third elevate his math score from 39 to 76 after 1 lesson. I've also helped a TEAS student earn 100% on the Math section and another raise her prior math score 25 points from a 59 to an 84.

Preparing for timed tests requires a different skill set. I teach students to use mental math, logic, and common sense to improve their time management, which leads to higher scores. I read the dictionary and do crossword puzzles to expand my vocabulary and help students increase their verbal scores on the ASVAB, AFOQT, TEAS, and HESI. I supply all testing materials.

I've always loved math. I'm a former college algebra instructor with a magna cum laude B.A. degree in Math from Christopher Newport University. I have tutored pre-calculus and calculus in their math lab, arriving early and leaving late, without extra pay, to ensure all students receive the help they need. It's never about the money. I've tutored pre-algebra, algebra, and trig students for free.

I know many find math hard, and I'm never judgmental when students struggle with it. I encourage them to ask questions until they fully understand. I don't give students the answers; I ask them questions to gauge their understanding and elicit the answers from them. When they're wrong, I ask students why they're incorrect. This makes them independent thinkers and boosts their confidence.

I can teach you strategies to improve your time management and score on the ACCUPLACER, CLEP, or any other math placement test. My most recent ACCUPLACER student earned a 282, which was the second highest score at her school. As a freshman, I scored so highly on my math placement test that I was not required to take a single math class in college. However, because of my love for math, I took several math courses as electives before ultimately deciding to major in Mathematics.

TEAS

In the past 3 years, I have helped 14 students pass the TEAS VI/HESI A2 exams. My most recent TEAS student improved her prior math score from a 59 to a 84. We only had one tutoring session for English and Language Usage, and her previous score improved by 8 points. Three of my recent TEAS students have earned 94, 100, and 90%, respectively, on the Math section. One of my HESI students improved her math score from a 50 to an 84 and in March 2021 another earned an 88% on the Math section. I will be happy to help you achieve similar results.

Professional! Goes above and beyond!

Michael was extremely helpful in helping me studying for the TEAS exam, particularly in math. He was not only knowledgeable in math, but had many helpful study tools as well as tips and tricks to eliminate multiple choice questions without having to solve the problems. He was professional, patient, and always well prepared. He also was available outside of our tutoring sessions to help with any questions I had. I would highly recommend using Michael as a tutor!

Alycia , 6 lessons with Michael
Tutor responded:

Thank you for the kind words, Alycia. The math on the TEAS is no harder than what you would expect in a 9th grade algebra or geometry class. Therefore, I am certain that none of the material on the test is new to TEAS students. They simply need a refresher on the basics. However, rather than trying to re-learn all of algebra, geometry, and statistics, I help students master the shortcuts and strategies that can be used to earn a high score on the test. That is my philosophy with all career aptitude tests, including the HESI, PAX, and the military aptitude and officer candidate tests. I am certain that all of your hard work, coupled with these tips, will help you perform very well on your TEAS exam.

Customized to My Needs and Goals

Michael was able to help me identify the areas I needed to get better at for the next exam. I am excited to keep working with him, as I have already learned so much so far!

Kerry-Ann, 5 lessons with Michael
Tutor responded:

Thank you for the favorable review, Kerry-Ann. It was very helpful of you to share the breakdown of your recent TEAS exam with me so that I could develop a game plan that addressed your specific needs. Tutoring is a partnership between tutor and student, and the bests results occur when we work together as a team. I really appreciate it!

Excellent Math Lesson

I haven't had a math class since 2006, and in just an hour, Michael brought back a lot of knowledge I thought was lost. Studying for the AFOQT by myself has been hard, so I'm really happy to have found a tutor that can break things down simply to dust off the cobwebs. I am really looking forward to more sessions with him before I take my test.

Ashley, 9 lessons with Michael
Tutor responded:

Thank you, Ashley. I always tell students that the math on the AFOQT covers things you probably already know, but have just forgotten because you haven't done them in a while. Moreover, succeeding on the AFOQT math sections requires you to use a different approach than you would take in an algebra or geometry class. The test administrators don't need to "see your work." They only care whether you provide the correct answer. I show students how to obtain those answers without all the work.

Great Teacher

Have done 2 lessons so far with Michael and have learned a great amount information from him. I plan to take many more lessons with him to further prepare myself for the AFOQT.

Kodi, 5 lessons with Michael
Tutor responded:

Thanks for the favorable review, Kodi. I look forward to continuing to help you prepare for the AFOQT.

Knowledgeable

Michael helped me more into identifying the root, suffix and prefixes of words to help me break them down. He is very patient and knowledgeable about the things he explains. He also provides many great examples to help break down his explanations

Cesar, 1 lesson with Michael
Tutor responded:

Thank you for sharing these comments, Cesar. It is my pleasure to assist you with the verbal portion of the AFOQT.

Knowledgeable and detailed

Wonderful tutorial, i have learnt a lot knew techniques especially in maths solving problems, i would recommend him to all students looking to sharpen their skills and improve their scores.

Abe, 5 lessons with Michael
Tutor responded:

Thank you very much, Abe. I am glad that you have found the strategies we have discussed to be helpful.

Knows how to break things down

Michael was a huge a help with helping me break down vocabulary words when preparing for the AFOQT. Looking forward to future sessions. He also helped me form a study plan to help me achieve my end goal.

Adam, 6 lessons with Michael
Tutor responded:

Thank you, Adam, for the positive review. I am happy to assist you with accomplishing your goals.

Knowledgeable and Dedicated

I have just finished my tutoring with Michael and feel very confident taking the AFOQT! Michael is seriously good at teaching the material. In addition to that, he helps outside of tutoring by sharing resources or answering questions. He's certainly one of the best.

Dallas, 7 lessons with Michael
Tutor responded:

Dallas, I really appreciate the kind words. It has been a pleasure working with you, and I definitely believe that you will succeed on the AFOQT and beyond.

Highly Recommended! Knowledgeable and Patient

It's been some time since I have last studied for a test and preparing for the OAR is not easy. I would like to thank Michael for his patience and knowledge on the subject. He made it really easy to understand and I would highly recommend him for any math-related subjects! Thank you and looking forward to more sessions in the future!

Randolph Chester , 10 lessons with Michael
Tutor responded:

Thank you for the kind words, Randolph. My goal is to make the material as simple as possible so that the student can ultimately complete the problems on his or her own. Most students seeking test prep only need a refresher because it has been some time since they have used these concepts. With continued practice and hard work, I am sure that you can do well on the OAR.
