I am a 2019 graduate of Hampden-Sydney College, majoring in Applied Math and Mathematical Economics. I have over three years of experience tutoring grades 6-12 and College level courses. I also have three years of experience with written and spoken Mandarin Chinese. As a recent graduate of college, my tutoring courses are still fresh in my memory and up to date with the current curriculum. Being an Applied Math Major, I have a deep understanding of mathematics down to the most basic level, so I will be able to quickly identify any troubles a student may be having.
My main goal is to help students not only learn troublesome material, but to really understand it. I am extremely versatile in my tutoring strategies, and will make lessons completely customized for each student. Most importantly, I like to make tutoring fun, since students tend to learn more when the learning is enjoyable. Education has always been one of the most important parts of people's lives, and I want to help ensure that students get to fulfill their dreams by providing them with a solid educational foundation.

I have been tutoring math for three years now, and I am able to quickly pinpoint the problems students are having with the subject. Math is a frustrating subject, and at one time I struggled through it as well. It has made me excellent at helping students navigate through the difficulty and come out even stronger on top. I am able to provide assistance visually, conceptually, through examples, and any other way the student learns best.
My two math degrees have ensured that I have covered the fundamentals of all types of mathematics. My Applied Math degree has provided me with basic to graduate level knowledge of calculus, linear algebra, and probability. My Mathematical Economics degree has further provided me with basic to graduate level knowledge of statistics and data analysis.

Please don't hesitate to contact me for any assistance. I am quick to respond to any questions about scheduling lessons. With me, there is no such thing as a bad question, as we have all been in the same position at one point. Learning should be fun, and if it doesn't seem to be, you haven't found a tutor like me!

I use Google Calendar to schedule all of my busy hours. If you'd like to check my current availability (updated several times daily), you may view it here:

Statistics

Statistics

I have been tutoring statistics for two years now in classes ranging from 100 level base classes to 400 level data analysis classes. I am able to break down statistics into its fundamentals, in case a student has any question about a specific concept. Being an applied math major, I also understand how frustrating the topic can be, so I have a deep understanding of what students have the most trouble with. For data analysis, I have written and assisted in the writing of many analysis reports, both in college and for businesses in my work. These reports typically include theory, hypotheses, methodology, R code, and explanations of the analysis. My biggest goal is to help others truly understand how statistics works, as it is a subject that is going to greatly change the world in the near future.

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I have tutored math beginning from 6th grade, where algebra begins. I have not only learned all the algebraic fundamentals there are, but fully understand them as well. I can explain any troublesome topics in as much detail as possible. Algebra is the basis of all math, so I try to guide students in the right direction, rather than just give them the correct answers right away. I believe this helps them build their critical thinking skills, and helps them think more conceptually for future math problems.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have been a math tutor for high school and college math for over two years now. Even in college, the biggest subject I tutored was algebra. It is such an important subject for students to succeed in math, and I have taken the last 5 years or so to refine and perfect my algebra skills. I am able to break down the subject into its fundamentals, and go into as much detail as a student would like. I am also able to explain the subject in many different ways, so a student can find the way that works easiest for them.
Calculus,

Calculus

I have been a calculus tutor for over two years now, and have tutored calculus students from every skill level. I have also been studying the subject for around five years now, beginning with AP Calculus in high school to Calculus III in college. I am extremely good at pinpointing the specific issues students may have with the subject, and I am able to explain the concepts of the subject down to its fundamentals. Being an applied math major, calculus is a huge portion of what we do, since it has applications in so many different fields.
Geometry,

Geometry

Geometry is a basis of all math, and is used as a topic in nearly every mathematical subject. Because of this, I have studied geometry down to its fundamentals in order to increase my understanding of other subjects as well.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

Algebra is the most important topic in mathematics. Most complex math learned in later years expects students to have a solid and deep understanding of algebra. This also means that prealgebra is just as important. I am able to explain the subject in extreme detail, and will be as patient as the student needs to understand each topic. Because the topic is so important, I strive to ensure that the student doesn’t only learn, but completely understands as well.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

Calculus is one of the fundamental topics of all mathematics, so in order to understand the basics of calculus, we must first understand pre calculus. The class covers all of the main ideas and concepts of calculus without getting into the complex math that is involved with calculus. I am able to explain the ideas in as much detail as requested, since I have a deep understanding of the fundamentals of calculus.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

I have been tutoring math for over two years now, from middle school level algebra to college level calculus. As a math major, I am extremely good at breaking down math problems to their fundamentals, and explaining how to solve the problem through every step. I am able to go into as much detail as the student wants, and understand which parts of the subject students typically have the most trouble with. Because the SAT has a huge time constraint, I have made my lesson strategy to help students think quickly about what type of question they are answering. I want to ensure that during the test, the students are answering the questions both quickly and properly.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is required heavily in algebra, geometry, and calculus. Especially in high school, the subject isn’t taught heavily enough, so many students are left frustrated. There are few fundamental rules of trigonometry to understand, so I will help fill in the blanks with what students are required to know.

The PSAT is by far more difficult than the SAT; however, my philosophy is that one should strive to be over prepared rather than under prepared. The way I tend to tutor the PSAT is to take SAT questions from study guides and ramp up their difficulty. It may be frustrating at first, but I’d like the student to be able to attack the SAT thinking it’s way easier than what they were studying previously.

Wow!!

My son was tutored by Leonardo last night in stats, a subject that has been very difficult for him. He had a test today and scored a 97, which he has never done before. My son gave all the credit to his new tutor. He was amazing and we are happy. My son said that he was able to perform in the test based on Leonardo’s tutoring.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Leonardo is a fantastic tutor. In additional to the scheduled pre-calculus math lesson, he talked about the econ major which my kid is interested in. He was very patient throughout the whole session. I highly recommend him.

Knowledgeable tutor

Leonardo helped me with my homework on probability, my understanding on the topic has become much better, since I’ve been having lessons with Leonardo. He was able to explain different concepts in a way that I could understand. Looking forward to more lessons with Leonardo!

Tess, 6 lessons with Leonardo

Patient

Leonardo is extremely patient. He takes however much time is necessary before moving on to the next problem. If I don't understand one explanation he tries it from a different angle and does this until it's understood.

Fantastic!!!

My 17-year-old daughter who is taking AP stats is so excited to work with Leonardo! She felt so much relief after her first lesson. He is wonderful! It is so nice as a parent to watch your child get excited to learn a topic that is so challenging for them. My daughter has a busy schedule with many extra curricular activities, this app is perfect to make it possible! Thank you, Leonardo!!!
