About Elizabeth

My name is Elizabeth and I have been teaching and/or tutoring for the past 13 years. I enjoy working with students helping them to learn things that areally difficult for them. I have some training in Applied Behavior Analysis and extensive training in the Wilson Reading Program.
I particularly love working with Elementary Age students because I feel when they get the right help early on, they demonstrate more success when they are older. I have experience with students with special education concerns as well as elementary, middle, and high school age students.

Math has always been a preferred subject area that I have excelled in. On my Elementary Praxis test I scored in the upper 10% of people taking the test and was awarded extra money when I worked for Charlottesville City Schools because of this. I am creative when teaching math and have been able to help many students understand difficult math concepts.

I have worked for the past 13 years with students that have IEPs with reading needs. I have training in the Wilson Reading Program and have learned and used many resources to help struggling readers learn to read. Phonics and Comprehension are areas that struggling readers need help with and when I teach, I not only focus 9n these skills but in helping my students learn to love to read.

I love science and have since I was a student. It is my favorite area to teach because it can be used as a method to self discovery. Experiments allow my students to use all of their skills in other academic areas and have fun at the same time using everyday materials.

I am trained in the Wilson Reading Program as well as the Fundations reading program. I vary how I teach to meet the students where they are and to help them develop the confidence to be avid readers.

Teaching is my life and I enjoy every minute of it. My goal in tutoring in to help my students be successful and to support continued educational growth. Let me know if you have questions or would like to get started improving your education.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
