About Anna

I have worked exclusively in test prep for the last year and a half, with ten years of tutoring on a part-time basis before that. I have experience with a wide variety of students, both by age and learning style, and take a positive, practical approach.

I love teaching test prep. There are skills to learn or refresh (such as stem and leaf charts!), but there are also testing strategies that benefit students hoping to increase their scores. I am able to work in any section of the SAT or ACT but recommend reviewing the test as a whole.

I'm looking forward to putting my knowledge and abilities to work for students through this platform! Please email me with any questions and I'll be excited to help however I can!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

As a grammar tutor, I will focus on what you need to know for the test. Both the SAT and ACT test very specific rules while completely ignoring others. This is a great section to see score improvement with just some brushing up on the rules!

ACT Math

The math section can yield well to focused practice. We'll start wherever the student is and build their skill set, test taking ability, or both!

ACT Reading

This section can be hard to make headway with on your own! As we work through passages, we'll determine the student's best reading strategy as well as how his or her strengths can be used to maximize their accuracy.

ACT Science

This is an especially interesting section to work in. A little bit reading comprehension, a little bit word search, and almost no science knowledge required! The skill set to master here is the least relevant to most schoolwork, so specific practice gives the best results. You don't have to be good at science to be good at the science section...actually, sometimes the students who are best in science are the ones who struggle here the most!

SAT Math

The redesigned SAT offers a calculator and no-calculator portion, which can cause problems for students who are either calculator dependent or don't know how to use the graphing calculator effectively. I have worked with both types of students and can help improve math abilities as well as talk test-taking strategy to help a student reach their maximum potential!

SAT Reading

After years of teaching SAT testing and preparation, I am able to discuss student's weak and strong points. We can build up your skills, analyze the most effective test taking techniques, and get plenty of practice! Intimidating reading comprehension is much more manageable with a guide.
