University of Virginia (Spanish, Media)
Hi there! I'm a recent graduate from the University of Virginia honors program, and I hold a B.A. with distinction in Spanish and Media Studies. In July, I'll begin my new job as a Market Research Analyst at a prominent consultancy in Washington D.C. Though my career focus is in business and policy, I have always been a great communicator – from public speaking, to essay writing, to foreign language study, I've always had a way with words.
As an avid student of language, I have a great deal of experience in both English and Spanish. To hone my English skills, I served as the head editor of several student publications, was published in many academic journals and online news sources, and received no lower than a B+ on any piece of academic writing – from 2 to 25 pages in length – during my time at UVA. I am a skilled public speaker, having served as an official University Tour Guide in addition to many other public speaking opportunities. In all of this work, I have enjoyed tutoring, proofreading, editing, and coaching to help others to better convey their messages.
I developed my Spanish fluency through immersion experiences and formal classroom study; I have studied abroad twice in Spain, once in Cuba, and I've traveled extensively in Latin America. While at school, I earned my Spanish Language and Literature major from UVA's prestigious Spanish program, graduating with a 3.94 department GPA. I also served as a volunteer tutor for the Spanish immersion residence at UVA, where I lived for one year during my undergrad career.
I am a patient, articulate, and creative person who loves to use my knowledge and experience to help others with whatever challenge. If my skills sound like a match for you, send me a message and I would love to work with you!
Also, if you'd like to know some hard numbers, here are a few:
Overall UVA GPA: 3.65
Media Studies GPA: 3.85
Spanish GPA: 3.94
SAT: 2270 (740 CR, 730 M, 800 W)
SAT II: Spanish 790
Let me know if you'd like to brush up on your oral or written communication skills in English or Spanish – I'm flexible on nights and weekends, and happy to help when I can! Hi there! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
