Christopher Newport University (cell and molec. bio.)
I recently graduated from Christopher Newport University as a cellular, molecular, and physiological biology major and chemistry minor. I maintained a 3.23 cumulative GPA 3.28 biology GPA and a 3.19 chemistry GPA. I was a organic chemistry tutor at CNU and I tutored high school chemistry at Heritage High school. I enjoy seeing students succeed and understand concepts that originally challenged them, but my favorite part of tutoring is seeing a student become more passionate about what we are studying. I strongly believe if a student enjoys the material and finds it interesting they will become more active in learning the material and possibly find their future career.
I have taken anatomy and physiology I and II along with the labs and have a combined GPA of 3.38 from those four classes. I have achieved a B in both biochemistry I and II lectures and I have a strong understanding of the material. I excelled in general chemistry 1 and 2 with the labs, organic chemistry I and II with the labs, inorganic chemistry with its lab, and analytical chemistry which I believe gives me a strong background in chemistry. I got an A in genetics and understand the material very well. I, also, have taken a number of biology courses and I am becoming an alumni member of the beta beta beta biology national honor society.
I am eager to help students succeed from regular classes to AP. Feel free to contact me at any time by either email or phone. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I passed the praxis to teach biology. I taught honors biology as a board substitute. I was a cellular and molecular biology major, but I have taken organismal and environmental biology courses.
I was a chemistry minor at CNU. I passed the chemistry praxis, and I have been endorsed to teach by doing so. I have taught AP chemistry and college preparatory chemistry as a board substitute.
I took a genetics course in college and received an A. I have also taken anatomy and physiology which touches on the development of embryos and the layers involved in human development. I have a strong understanding of the material and I have tutored friends while they took genetics and I am confident I could teach other students.
