Hello! I am so excited to be reaching students at a new level. I have always enjoyed teaching and have worked hard to be the best I can be. I enjoy working with students who want to improve a little or a lot. I know that every once in a while we all need a little extra help and guidance. When I was in school I needed help as well, so I know the value of a good tutor!
I have worked with students of all levels for three years in the classroom and as a tutor. Encouragement, patience, and knowledge of what I am teaching are all things that I find helpful in being a successful tutor.
I love tutoring because it can be the key that brings a student success. Sometimes hearing things again, from a different person, or a different perspective can make things "click" in our minds and allow us the understanding we were looking for. I love to provide a positive learning environment both in person and online with lots of encouragement and support. Learning is different for everyone and meeting the student where they are at is the key to being a great tutor!
I love reading and the doors it opens. I know that reading and having a good vocabulary can open doors. These skills are good for all subject areas and can carry us through life with success!
I have worked with students that are excellent readers and want to improve and with students who struggle with reading. Starting at a phonetic level and building confidence there allows for a solid foundation for reading success.
After working in the public school system I have seen that students need guidance in how to study. After finding out what a student's learning style is, we can give them a range of activities and tools to make studying more successful.
I have taught American History for three years in the public school system. I really enjoy teaching students how our country formed and how it has grown and changed.
I would love to work with you to make you more successful in your education no matter what level you are at. Please contact me so we can start improving your skills today! Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to teach phonics based on my teaching experience in the first grade. Students at that age are firming up their phonics experience and fluency so they can become better readers. I have worked with students of various reading levels and abilities. I am also qualified based on my test score for the RVE and PRAXIS tests required to receive a teaching licence (184 and 183 respectively). My tutoring experience with phonics started when my daughter began to learn about letters and sounds in 2003 and has continued since then to the formal education field with elementary students of various ages.
During my time as a teacher I have had to help students learn how to study. This includes directly providing materials for them to study with as well as giving them ideas to use or methods to try. My knowledge of student learning styles because of my classroom experience helps make me qualified for this area as well. I know that the more ways a student is exposed to information, the more likely it is to stick with them. Teaching students how to remember and apply knowledge is part of any teacher or tutors job.
