I'm Dana, and I am someone who is inspired to teach those who are eager to stand out and want to pursue their talents in the Performing Arts! I have been working with kids and students for a long time as a Vacation Bible School volunteer to a Substitute Teacher with the Lynchburg City Schools in Lynchburg, Virginia. When I was active in theatre, as a child, I had a great time learning how to act, sing, and dance. I enrolled in a variety of children's enrichment programs at T.C. Miller Elementary School and through the Academy of Fine Arts. For several years, I took tap, ballet, and jazz at Seven Hills Dance Company which taught me how to use movement and choreography.
By the time I reached Junior year at E.C. Glass, I realized that I wanted to major and achieve a degree in Theatre. I have an interested passion to teach it to kids and the youth. I recently have gotten the opportunity when I volunteered with the children's drama program at Dunbar Middle. I taught them their lines, characters, and gave them one-on-one feedback. I took what I learned as a Theatre major and applied it to teaching the kids in the drama program. My teaching techniques involve acting the character out myself, giving visual ideas, being firm when it comes to line learning, and assigning what they have to rehearse on their own time. I like to be creative and fun with my teaching because learning needs to be enjoyable but resourceful at the same time. The teaching of reading, speech development, and drama requires patience along with having kids understand that it is important to be imaginative and to think outside the box.
As a tutor, I will make sure the student is confident and secure to be their character or to say their speech. Finally, I will commit to doing whatever it takes to make sure the student learns and is fully prepared to perform their talents on stage.
Thank you and hope to hear from you soon! Hello Everyone!
I have been a skillful Substitute Teacher for the Lynchburg City Schools. I have been subbing for Elementary, Middle, and High School levels for about a year teaching English, Math, Social Studies, Language Arts, and Study Skills. I enjoy subbing everyday and make the effort to spend time teaching kids as much as possible. I admire the connection of being a Substitute Teacher and having the ability to teach younger kids.
Throughout grade school and at Longwood University I have learned what certain skills are needed depending on what is needed to be studied. For example, I would do my homework and study every night for whenever I had a Spanish test come up. Or if I had a speech to perform the next day, I made sure to rehearse in front of the mirror and in front of others until I felt prepared. I learned that developing helpful study skills will guarantee a better performance on the test, quiz or speech.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre from Longwood University. I have had some opportunities teaching theatre at two local high schools and a middle school. I taught during a children's summer camp at the Academy of Fine Arts. Will teach students character development of getting to know their characters. I relate the character or scene to their understanding such as comparing them to an actual person or situation that they are familiar with. Making the learning of their lines would be taken seriously because it is important to get them right for the character the student is portraying. It is also crucial for the student to understand what they are doing in the show before performing it.
