My job required me to teach several small groups of students the skills needed to pass the PALS test in the spring. My pass rate was 89%, the best in school history.

I have five years experience working within the school system. I have co-taught third grade (all subjects), was a math and language arts small group specialist for fifth grade, been a full time substitute teacher, and summer school secretary. I have also screened incoming kindergartners during kindergarten registration held in the spring. I know the skills needed to succeed.

I am a mother of four children ages 18, 22, 24, and 28 and a grandma to my beautiful 4 year old granddaughter! I was a scout leader, both boy and girl, for 18 years. I have quite a bit of experience with children and students. I know how to motivate children and make learning fun. I am "firm yet fair", at least according to one of my prior fifth grade students!

I have been a handwriting instructor for the past 3 years in the Prince William County School system. We use Handwriting Without Tears as our basic instruction. This instruction involves the use of songs, curved and straight boards, chalk board and chalk, and a wet sponge. It uses many manipulatives that increase hand-eye coordination and increases memorization of the skills. The premise is all letters start at the top regardless of upper or lower case. There are main letters, such as C, that are used to teach other letters such as a, d, g, o, and q. The skills are easily learned by children 4-10 years old.

Great with young kids.

Taught my 4 year old son how to write his full name. Also, taught him how to use scissors. Those are two important things to learn in preparation for kindergarten.

Excellent!

Donna is a wonderful tutor! She is friendly, prompt and effectively communicates with me as the parent. With my son, she is very patient, She helps him stay on task, and provides fun reading games he loves! When we started, my son was reading at a beginning first grade level and was going into the second grade. With Donna's help he is now ready for the second grade and he is reading like I have never seen before! Thanks Donna you are the best!
