I am located in rural Virginia. Please note that our lessons will be online.

I enjoy working with students one on one or in small groups. It is such an honor to meet so many students from around the world meeting new students and learn their history and teach them to tell their story.

I have a B.A. in Dramatic Art and a certificate in American Sign Language.

I have a B.A. in Dramatic Art and a certificate in American Sign Language.

I have tutored low literacy adults and enjoy the discovery when someone 'gets it'. I also teach English as an Other Language to adults. Studies do not come easy for me, so I understand that sometimes people need extra help or a different viewpoint to understand something new. I find that many times students fall behind because they find the material dull. I believe in breaking complex problems into components to make the subject understandable.

My goal is to present material in a way that the student will understand the basics and be able to move to the next level with confidence.

Public Speaking

I have a BA in Dramatic Art and studied speaking skills, linguistics and phonetics in pursuit of a career in the theater. I have performed in numerous community theater and small professional theater productions of the years. I know (and can explain) techniques for improving speech quality and calming nerves when having to face a group.

Corporate Training

ESL/ESOL,

ESL/ESOL

I teach ESOL by total immersion. I tailor each session to the needs and vocabulary of the student. I don't spend a lot of time explaining grammar, but use grammar and vocabulary to help students reach their goal. My training in theater arts has given me the tools to teach students American pronunciation as part of their vocabulary lessons. I have had the privilege to teaching ESOL to financial managers, journalists, pharmacists, accountants and other professionals. I always remember that my students are intelligent adults who have come to learn another skill. Most importantly, I believe that the learning experience for adults should not be a chore but something they look forward to each time that we meet.
Grammar,

Grammar

I love English grammar. Although the fashion is to promote fluency without focusing on how or why the language works. I teach students the basic eight parts of speech, then show students how each piece fits together with the others. I teach students how to make sure that subject/verb match and the importance of antecedents when using pronouns. My students learn that grammar is the foundation for their expressions, not simply rules that have no place in their communication. I teach students that grammar is a puzzle and my method is to show a student how to put the puzzle together to make many beautiful pictures.

I am a former volunteer with the Washington Literacy Council where I tutored low-literacy adults and trained other tutors on using the 'Wilson' method of reading. The Wilson method provides a structured way to using sounds to read and spell and also encourages students to write. The Wilson method is adaptable to all age levels and is great tool for those who wish to begin a life of reading pleasure.

How to deal with a difficult customer :)

The session was great and extremely helpful to my daily business tasks.

The greatest English teacher I have ever met

I am a Chinese student. I met with Morie online from September 2017. Since then I had met her regularly once or twice per week. I had worked for more than 10 month with her to improve my oral English. I can feel I have made lots of progress. Morie is the greatest English teacher I have ever met. She is a very experienced English teacher on pronunciation and speaking. She had broad knowledge on American history, politics, literature and culture. It is a pleasure to have class with her. I feel I am so lucky to have the opportunity to meet with Morie. Thank you, Morie! Thank you, Teacher!

Insightful, knowledgeable and more...

Just had my first lesson with Moire. She is so insightful and capable of helping me practice my interviewing skills. I look forward to growing my skill set. I can also vouch that she has a mastery of the English language with excellent pronunciation and grammar tips. If you want to improve your English skills quickly and correctly, Moire is the best. I look forward to having my next lesson.

Knowledgeable, experienced and patient. She has a genuine caring and nurturing nature.

Moire teaches ESL to my elderly mom and she has been simply amazing, compassionate and fun. My mom can’t wait to talk to her again and looks forward to each class.

A brilliant tutor =^_^=

Moire helped me with American accent, she helped me to find the flaws in my speaking which I am not able to identify. She is encouraging and strict at the same time, and this is very helpful for my improvement. Now I feel more confident. :)

Thankful lesson

Thank you for the lesson. I was so happy to know how to use words and how to say in English. It was so helpful that you gave me many examples when you teach me words. Thank you!

One of the best I have ever seen

I have been taking lessons from Moire for more than three months. I have seen a lot progress in my write and vocabulary skills, which I need the most for my GRE test. Not to mention her kindness and her sense of humour, which made to overcome my lack of confidence. I definitely recommend her.
