Hello! Thank you for viewing my tutoring profile! I am a Virginia licensed teacher in 9-12 English, K-12 ESL, and K-12 Reading with 21 years of high school teaching experience. After graduating from James Madison University and completing my student teaching, I taught 9th grade English in Fairfax County for five years and in Loudoun County for seven years. I completed my Master's Degree in Reading through Shenandoah University in 2011 and am a licensed K-12 Reading Specialist. I have been a High School Reading Specialist in LCPS for nine years, and I love every minute of it! I specialize in reading remediation and helping juniors and seniors prepare for the English EOC Reading and Writing SOLS. I also served as the Reading Specialist for LCPS' Adult Education GED Program for three years.

When it comes to teaching and tutoring, I simply love working with high school students! I feel that it is very important to get to know students as people first and to find out what their likes, dislikes, and interests are. Then, I need to get to know them as students and find out what their strengths, weaknesses, and needs are. Through this combination, lessons can be designed to meet students where they are, with the goal of constant achievement and improvement in mind. I am very passionate about reading, and truly believe that reading is the foundation of all education. There is a book out there for every single student (even those who hate to read), and it is my intention to put it in his or her hands.

While the majority of my experience is with high schoolers, I do have experience in (and enjoy!) working with elementary and middle school students, ESL/ELL students of all ages (including adults), and lower-level readers in need of remediation. I excel at helping students pass the EOC Reading and Writing SOL tests. I am also an excellent resource for study skills and organization. So...let me help you or your student and contact me today!

Incredibly great tutor! Very patient, insightful and reliable.

Kristin has been great with our son. She has worked with him over the past 2 months and has identified learning challenges specific to him that the school overlooked. She has focused on those issues and his reading progress has been tremendous. He looks forward to her visits and she feels like a part of the family. We highly recommend her!
