About Cheryl

Overcoming challenges and finding unique ways of looking at situations has been a hallmark of my career in education.

I spent more than 10 years in the public school system, as a substitute teacher and special education paraprofessional. During that time, I learned many creative ways of helping students at all skill levels. Interestingly, I found that special education and regular education students needed the same things from me: time, patience, and my understanding for their unique needs. After school, I coached the Unified Special Olympics team (Soccer, Basketball, and Track), and helped them reach heights they didn't know existed. Watching my students and athletes improve and succeed was one of the most rewarding times in my life.

After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Old Dominion University, I decided to pursue my Special Education degree. In order to help defer some of my education costs, I taught myself website design and graphic design, and started my own web & graphic design company. Combining my unique and varied skill set has been a great benefit to my business.

I am available for online and in-person tutoring in the Fredericksburg, King George, and Colonial Beach areas. I am available every day from 9am to 8pm, by appointment. I charge $75/hr for in-person tutoring and $45/hour for online tutoring. I can either come to your location or help locate a neutral location. I am open to package-session discounts, so please contact me with questions!

I look forward to talking with you soon!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Microsoft Windows

I have used Microsoft Windows for more than 20 years. I have owned and used the operating system during my college career, and now during my professional career. When I am not tutoring, I currently own and operate a website & graphic design business, which I operate from a Microsoft Windows 10 computer and laptop. I have owned, and fluently used, the following Microsoft Windows operating systems: Windows 3.1, Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10.

Special Needs

I worked in a special needs classroom for 10 years in the public school system. I coached Special Olympics track, basketball, and soccer for more than 5 years. I have completed 15 masters' level college credits towards my Masters' Degree in Special Education. I have written IEP's, behavior intervention plans, and assisted with inclusion for students at a variety of ability levels. I believe I have the skills necessary to help students with special needs.
