I went out to Korea in 2006 because I was curious about Korea. The job I chose was teaching and it changed my life. I went out to Korea in 2006 because I was curious about Korea. The job I chose was teaching and it changed my life. Having a chance to teach TOEFL in Korea for the last 13 years as well as SAT Reading for 8 years was a chance for me to see the English education industry for the first time. I was honored to have the chance to teach TOEFL in front of small and large classrooms ranging from 5 to 250 student classrooms. The experience was a little overwhelming at first, but it taught me how to manage large groups, answer questions, build lesson plans, and, most importantly, learn every different type of difficulty that students have while studying TOEFL and in English in general. I have published 5 TOEFL books that are consistently in the top #20 national bestsellers for TOEFL in South Korea.
I have taken over 35 actual TOEFL tests and have taught every printed TOEFL and SAT book in the market today (Barron's, Kaplan, Official Guide, etc) as well as books that are only available in Asian markets. And, any test taker knows well that a lot of the printed material out there isn't anything like the actual test. Starting with solid material and then building an effective curriculum around that material was a problem that I had a lot of fun resolving. My greatest joy over the course of my career, though, has been to meet students who are just lost and helping them not only learn how to achieve high scores but how to build the confidence that is the core of any successful student.
13 years of teaching test prep is 13 years of teaching only standardized tests, which has the potential to be very boring. The reason I love teaching isn't the subject material so much as the sudden look of understanding that students have when they finally understand a tough concept, or when they pronounce a sound that was just impossible before, or when they get the score they want. These are amazing moments for me because I know my student is one step closer to finishing. I honestly don't know if I'm a good teacher, but I love teaching and I'm passionate about always doing a better job.
When you study with me, you can rest assured that I will not only answer all of your questions, but I will explain it until you totally get it. We will never rush a concept and we will never leave a question unanswered. And, if you've solved every book out there, don't worry, I'll write new problems for you to solve that strengthen your weakest points and we will get that score together.

I was one of the first TOEFL Speaking teachers in South Korea. I taught English in English and Korean for 13 years, with 8 of those years also including SAT Reading. My students have ranged from beginners to experts, elementary school to 60+ years of age.

I have extensive knowledge of AP and GT reading list authors as well as being able to explain tone and context. In high school I scored 5 on the English AP exams. While teaching TOEFL Speaking, I had a chance to develop conversational debate and academic debate classes for training fluency during communication. If you want to learn grammar, talk about literature, social sciences, technical topics, or just learn some vocabulary, I can present you with a number of different lesson plans that are customized for your level.

Students are provided with custom made vocab quizzes tailor made for the student's level, critical analysis of all types of reading passages (Founding document, Science, Social Science, Pair) with specific focus on question types and common College Board "trick" choices, as well as total line-by-line explanation of passages and author logic. I also write my own passages if a student would like additional help with a particularly difficult topic.

My 250 student classrooms meant that I needed 13 different TAs to help manage the 15 12-15 student study groups that formed in that one class. I have over a decade of experience handling questions from hundreds of students (at my peak, I was responsible for over 1000 students in the same month) Feel free to ask every question you've ever had about TOEFL because I would love to hear a question I haven't had a chance to answer yet!
