About Albert

Hi, my name is Albert. I grew up in Herndon, Virginia, a suburb outside of D.C. I am interested in teaching students who want to expand their skills and learn a craft. I'm a relaxed teacher, as my best teachers have always been, and will cater to the individuality of every student. I understand that every person has their own unique strengths and weaknesses and this has always interested me. It is important that students never feel judged by myself or themselves because it prevents growth.

I will motivate students to observe their mistakes and come up with a plan to improve upon them. Failure is something to be celebrated when learning. Failures are flag posts to success, and without them, there is no improvement. The most important thing to me is that tutoring sessions are fun and productive.

I got straight A's in high school and completed the English AP exam twice (my junior and senior year) so I did not have to take it in college. I've read a good number of books and as an actor have a wide vocabulary and sense of expression.

I've played guitar since I was 13 years old (I'm 23 now) and can teach a very unconventional, fun approach to the instrument centered around what YOU WANT to play and learn. I play both electric and acoustic. I'll work best with students who are just starting, understand only the basics (notes and/or chords), or have played 1-2 years and want to improve their versatility and begin to discover their style.

My father taught me chess when I was very young. It wasn't until I started playing on my own though, when I was 19, that I became a chess player. I have read many different books on chess focusing on the opening, tactics, checkmates, concepts, strategy, maxims, mid-game, and the feared endgame. I've played over 2,000 games of chess since I took to chess 4 years ago. Some of those were at W 4th, 14th Union Square, and Bryant Square Park, where I've spent hours - even days - at a table playing.

After graduating high school, I went to SUNY Purchase's Acting Conservatory and received my BFA in Acting. I've acted in over 50 plays. While at Purchase I acted in 8 MainStage plays. Since moving to New York, I have toured "Solutions" directed by Josh Fox as well as acted in Vera + Linus at parks around the city. I continue to audition and land roles. I have also had experience teaching acting at a summer camp called Acting for Young People at George Mason University in Virginia. I taught there for five summers.

Please contact me if you're interested in learning more about any of the topics I teach. If you think that my teaching style fits with how you learn, please let me know. If you have any questions please let me know.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
