Hello! My name is Katie, and I'm glad to have the chance to introduce myself to you!
I am a native speaker of English, having grown up in the United States and attended elementary, middle, and high schools here. My love of the English language dates back to high school, when in my senior year, I took both AP Language and AP Literature with my favorite English teacher, and learned incredible works of literature such as Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet!
I completed my undergraduate education at Duke University in North Carolina majoring in political science and minoring in Chinese, and completed my master’s degree at the Johns Hopkins University School for Advanced International Studies campus in Washington, DC, and in Nanjing, China.
I also gained professional fIuency in Mandarin Chinese by undertaking language study funded by scholarships and by using the language on the job helping to facilitate cultural and professional exchanges and delegation trips to China.
Now as a translator and editor, one of my greatest joys is having the opportunity to work with individuals from other countries and help them improve their English and help them more precisely convey the meaning of words and texts written in their native language.
Here on Wyzant, I would love to share my enthusiasm and long-time experience in the field of languages with students at all levels, whether it's helping students strengthen their English reading and writing skills for school or helping professionals attain proficiency in English as a second language for their jobs and daily lives. As a Mandarin Chinese speaker, I am also very comfortable working with students whose first language is Chinese and who may have limited English proficiency and helping them overcome the unique challenges of learning English as a second language.
Please feel free to reach out to me at any time. Look forward to meeting you and learning about you!
