I am a former High School science teacher (Biology, Chemistry and Human Anatomy) and have been tutoring/mentoring students since I was 14 when I helped a former teacher of mine at Lynnbrook Elementary. I have since tutored and mentored students of all ages from 7-21 in many different fields. I was a tutor for college level biochemistry and organic chemistry. My SAT and PSAT scores allowed me to be a National Merit Finalist and I am confident in the strategies and skills needed to do well on these tests. I went to TJHSST for High School and know the ins and outs of the entrance test for that school as well.

My method of tutoring focuses on helping the student understand the material they are confused with and can work with all types of learners. I apply both skills based and content based tutoring to help students learn the material so that they can not only recall facts, but use their knowledge in a variety of different contexts whether it be word problems, analogies or simple math equations. I have helped students with a variety of academic goals including:

-Helping a student who was in danger of dropping out of High School due to grades to achieve A&B Honor Roll.

-Raising students' SAT scores by over 100 points per section and 300 points cumulatively.

Raising a student's ACT score from a 29 to a 35.

Helping students gain admission into prestigious schools such as:
William and Mary
Rochester Institute of Technology
Virginia Tech
University of Virginia
Columbia University
and many more.

I offer both online and in-person tutoring and would love to speak with you today about achieving your academic goals!

I have previously taught high school math courses from Algebra I through Pre-Calculus with Fairfax County. I also have over 10 years experience tutoring individuals in math and one of my favorite subjects is Algebra I. I know it can be confusing for students to understand the intricacies of X's instead of numbers but I can make it enjoyable and understandable for all Algebra I students. I have experience working with students from a wide variety of learning backgrounds including gifted students, students with ADD/ADHD and students with learning disabilities. I have experience helping students and parents understand IEPs and how to best utilize the accommodations that the student deserves most effectively. My students have raised their grades over 2 letter grades and are better equipped to continue with their math education when they work with me on Algebra I.

I'm a tutor with over 10 years of experience in Algebra 2, identifying students' individual learning styles and developing an action plan to guide them through the struggles they experience while trying to master their subject. I am excited to help you improve Algebra 2 math skills such as factoring, quadratics, trigonometry and everything in between.

Knowledgeable and explains things effectively

He helped me to understand the material that I was stuck on. Certain concepts were just not making sense and he explained good ways to remember how they work. I was more comfortable about my material and tables I was working with after our lesson.

Great tutor

Joey has been an awesome tutor. He is patient and willing to explain things in many different ways until it makes sense. I was so lost in my accounting class until Joey helped me work through problems and explained how to think through them. Thanks Joey!

Knowledgeable, thorough and patient

Joey has tutored my son and my daughter in pre-calc/trig and chemistry for three months. Since they've worked with him, they've improved their understanding of the material substantially, going from C's to solid A's in their classes. My daughter has even become the tutor to everyone else in her chemistry class by sharing the tactics and explanations that Joey has given her. Joey reminds both my kids to plan ahead and works with them so that they are well-prepared for upcoming exams. I highly recommend Joey. I only wish I hadn't waited until halfway through the school year to hire him as a tutor.
