I have taught Latin, English, and history in the private school setting for several years. I currently tutor middle school and high school students in Latin (including AP), English literature and composition, history, French, and German.

I received my B.A. in Classics (i.e., Latin, Ancient Greek, ancient history and literature) and philosophy from Swarthmore College, where I graduated with highest honors and Phi Beta Kappa. I received an M.A. in Classics from the University of Chicago and a J.D. at the University of Virginia. Before discovering my love of teaching, I practiced law in Washington, D.C. for several years.

Studying a foreign language is both challenging and immensely rewarding. Too often, our foreign language programs in schools lack the rigor that is necessary for students to read, write, and converse in their chosen foreign language. In particular, students often need additional guidance in order to master the skills and content that are required for the AP Latin exam. I focus on helping students build the skills they need to succeed on the AP Latin exam and to read Latin literature with pleasure and profit.

Helping students to improve the quality of their writing through careful attention to structure, style, and content is a particular focus of my tutoring. I love teaching all eras and genres of literature. It is particularly rewarding to cultivate a student's enthusiasm for literature and for the humanities more broadly.

I firmly believe that every student can succeed and enjoy learning. When a student enjoys learning and feels that a tutor is his or her advocate, the student is more likely to be successful. As a result, my approach uses each student’s knowledge and interests in order to foster understanding, engagement, and self-confidence. Ensuring that each student has a solid foundation is also central to my approach, whether I am teaching English, history, or a foreign language.

Because we all learn differently, each student deserves an approach that is tailored to his/her learnin

Caring and knowledgeable Latin tutor

Diana was super helpful with my 17 year old son who is taking Latin 3. A real pleasure and she genuinely cares about his success. She has frequent availability and is very responsive. I highly recommend her!

Knowledgeable and patient tutor and great energy.

Diana was very patient with a recalcitrant student and her positive energy carried the whole lesson. Conjugating Latin verbs is not fun for every student, but Diana made it so.

Knowledgeable and Patient Tutor

Diana has been working with our son for several months and his French, both verbal and written, has really improved. Diana is upbeat, positive and patient and our son is very happy working with her, even after initially stating that he did not need the extra support. He know understands what a positive experience it can be.

Very impressive

I was very impressed with the work that Diana put into the introductory lesson. The explanations were clear, to the point and made use of the historical context. The lesson was more that just follow the book, read it and memorize the material. The depth of her knowledge, its application and her teaching experience were clearly at display. I will continue to take lessons with Diana.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor!

Diana is easy to communicate with. She honors our request of sending assignments a few days before the tutoring session. Diana is knowledgeable in what she is teaching and was always able to explain confusing concepts clearly.

Great AP Latin tutor!

Diana and I worked on scansion and sight translation for the AP Latin exam. She explained the rules I didn't know to me, met me where I was, and gave me a lot of practice with everything I needed help with. She told me what I should review and was overall very kind and helpful.
