About Michael

During my undergraduate career at James Madison University, I was often approached by friends several times each semester who were in need of tutoring to pass a physics test or class. In these sessions, I made sure to communicate effectively with them and explain key concepts in terms that I felt they would understand.

Normally this would start with me asking them how they would go about solving a problem, then helping them when they reached a point they could not get past on their own, in the process clarifying what they did right and why it was right, as well as clarifying concepts that they might have misinterpreted. I would follow up with them after their test or homework assignment to see how they were doing in the class, and the overwhelming majority said that my tutoring session(s) had helped them pass.

I enjoy tutoring because it helps me to spread some of my knowledge to people who need it. Conversely, it also affords me the opportunity to see a problem from a different perspective that I might not have considered, making the communication of knowledge a two-way street.

I have a B.S. in physics from James Madison University, as well as a minor in mathematics as part of the physics program at James Madison University. In addition, I have taken multiple programming classes at JMU, as well as worked on several coding projects as part of my physics degree.

Contact me here if you would like to schedule a tutoring session! I look forward to meeting with you to help you succeed in your studies.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
