In my childhood, I learned how to read and write in Spanish. When I came to the United States, I had to learn to speak another language: English. When I entered high school I learned to read and write English. In college I am learning new words and concepts. I have been working in different jobs where I got a lot of experiences, but I do not want to work there the rest of my life. Also I want to be an example to my sisters to graduate from college and encourage them to work and study as I am doing now at college. During my high year, McDonald’s gave me a scholarship when I wrote an essay about who my favorite teacher was during my high school year. The scholarship was called McDonald’s Ray A. Kroc Youth Achievement Award. Likewise, when I was at high school, I had a Certificate Membership called National Honor Society of Secondary School from Harrisonburg High School; I was also the “student of the week” of January 12th of 2004, and a Renaissance kid for three a half years because I had A’s and B’s on my report cards every six weeks and had perfect attendance. Moreover, one of my teachers at high school gave me a hundred dollars because I had A’s and B’s in her class, and I tried to do all my assignments and homework in that class. Overall I like to work with people and teach them what I know.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
