About Emily

I recently graduated with a Masters Degree from New England Conservatory. Prior to that, I attended Indiana University for my undergraduate degree, with a major in Violin Performance. My experience as a music student in college included regular teaching and coaching in various forms, with both colleagues and elementary age students. I find that teaching, or tutoring, is rewarding, and is also beneficial to the teacher. It encourages brainstorming of new ways to think about and explore subjects, or concepts, in the hopes of communicating them successfully.

As a student at a university, I also was required to take General Education subjects in addition to the usual music courses. Since high school, English has been my strongest subject, and I have received positive feedback in the classes that I have taken, including those during my undergraduate degree. I enjoy the process of coming up with a thesis, and the structure of a paper, in addition to the creative aspect as well. I am willing to go back as far as necessary to the basics, including basic reading and/or comprehension. I consider myself to be patient, enthusiastic, and creative in my role as a tutor.

I have studied the violin for 20 years, and have achieved a Masters Degree in performance, as well as spent many hours a day engaged in activities related to music and violin, from lessons, practicing, and performing, to collaborating.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
