About Jayme

Greetings!

My name is Jayme and I've been a teacher of many subject areas, with many certifications, for 13+ years. I currently hold a Bachelor's Degree of Arts in Special Education (Grades K-12) and am certified to teach the following in the states of Florida and Virginia: Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum, Middle Grades English (Grades 5-9), Reading (Endorsement), ESOL, High School English/Language Arts (Virginia, Grades 9-12). In addition, I have had more than 10 years of experience designing, implementing, assessing and tailoring language and Reading instruction for struggling and hesitant readers, students with dyslexia, reading/writing disabilities and ADHD as well as for English Language Learners.

In addition to these teaching experiences, I also offering tutoring services as a private ACT & SAT test prep specialist in Ghent, Norfolk and am extremely well-versed in teaching effective, research-based test prep and content-based strategies needed to pass the SAT or ACT or improve existing scores. Please be aware that due to my licensure, certifications, experience and comfort with the content, I can only offer tutoring services on the SAT/ACT Reading, Written Language/English and Essay portions of the test. I can, however, offer specific recommendations for an SAT/ACT math tutor if you require one. SAT/ACT Test prep sessions are typically held in sessions of intense, 2 hour blocks and include the following: 1) Goal Setting with breakdown of Raw Vs. Scaled & Area Scores 2) Overview of the subtests & Strategies for HOW TO take each part of the test 3) Reading/Written Language/Essay Drills 4) Practice Tests-- For best results, at least 4 sessions (8 hours total) are recommended for the SAT (2 for Reading, 1 for Written Language & 1 for Essay) and 3 sessions (6 hours total) for the ACT (2 for Reading, 1 for Written Language) due to the strategic nature of the tests and the need for strategy and practice work. SAT/ACT Test prep sessions are 150$ for each block of 2 hours and include a complete practice book with drills, strategies, practice tests and scoring guides, highlighters and pens.

I'm eager to hear from you regarding specific need; contact me for more information or to schedule tutoring sessions!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
