I ENJOY IDENTIFYING THE OBSTACLES THAT PREVENT A STUDENT FROM GOING FORWARD. ONCE IDENTIFIED, THE FLOOD GATES OPEN AND THE STUDENT UNDERSTANDS MANY CONCEPTS. SOMETIMES THE STUDENT DID NOT LEARN CERTAIN TOPICS IN PREVIOUS GRADES. ONCE THESE ARE UNDERSTOOD, THE STUDENT IMPROVES DRAMATICALLY.
I majored in mathematics at Northwestern University and received an honorary key.

I BECAME A DOCTOR and taught medical math including algebra to medical personnel.

I never lost my passion for math and frequently take online courses.

After I retired as a physician, I "embarked" on my second career in mathematics. I pride myself in getting the student enthusiastic about his work, and understanding concepts. I break down problems to smaller steps or more basic concepts so student can eventually understand the larger concept.

I realize learning certain concepts can be frustrating and difficult, and I am willing to spend whatever time it takes. If a student still has difficulty understanding the principles, I have concrete methods so the student can solve most of the problems.

I find it a privilege to assist anyone in mastering mathematics.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Dear Parents and Students, Algebra 1 is the cornerstone for higher mathematics. It involves the concepts of prealgebra as well as many new concepts. It can feel almost overwhelming in trying to master these skills. Oftentimes, one concept is quickly introduced after another. I go over each concept and progress at the rate of the student. Sometimes just repeating the exercises in a slightly different way is all that is necessary for success. Some of the students have raised their grade two levels. Thank you for allowing me the privilege to tutor your child.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 does not have to be frustrating! Some students might not have mastered the concepts of algebra 1. We go over certain principles and fill in any gaps, making algebra 2 easily mastered. I have devised many approaches so the student can select the best one for him.
Geometry,

Geometry

I enjoyed tutoring all levels of mathematics. I have taught basic and advanced geometry, including coordinate geometry and trigonometry. In my profession as a doctor, geometry was especially valuable in statistical research. With the advent of new math, students can become very frustrated. Do not be discouraged! I have worksheets and websites that brake down complex problems to straight forward solutions. In college I tutored many people in advanced algebra only to find difficulties in basic geometry. I found this equally true when I tutored algebra on this website.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

ear Parents and Students, Prealgebra is the cornerstone to algebra. Fundamental concepts need to be mastered to succeed in higher mathematics. I have devised " worksheets" to identify what areas the student needs to improve in to ensure success. Often, the student needs assistance in only a few areas to prepare him/her for his journey into algebra. I have had students greatly benefit from my tutoring. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to be your tutor.
SAT Math

SAT Math

The new SAT presents with two challenges. The first challenge is the style the test is written in. Sometimes the student does not know what the question is unless they know how to interpret what the authors are asking. Once one understands the terminology, the question is somewhat straightforward. I REVIEW THE TOPICS INCLUDING THE NEW ONES WHICH WERE RECENTLY ADDED.

Math

ACT Math,

ACT Math

I have tutored students who have raised their SAT math scores by 80 points. These student had scores from 470-550. One student had a learning disability. I majored in mathematics in college and received an honorary key in this subject. I appreciate the opportunity to tutor your child.

My sub specialty in mathematics was probability theory. I took additional classes in medical school to advance my knowledge in this area. I have tutored students who have raised their SAT math scores by 80 points. These students had scores from 470-550. One student had a learning disability. Additionally to raising their tests scores, they improved at least one grade point in high school mathematics. I majored in mathematics in college and received an honorary key in this subject. I have been tutoring the TEAS for over 10 years. I was a doctor until I retired and then pursued my first love--mathematics. I majored in mathematics in college and received an honorary key. I taught students who wanted to become nurses, medical students and residents to pass various tests such as TEAS. Several nurses had friends who asked for tutoring for the TEAS. (I was on senior staff of the Michigan Institute of Rehabilitation. Currently I tutor Math students in pre algebra to pre calculus. I am currently a teacher at Portsmouth Public Schools. Generally, I teach pre algebra, algebra 1 and 2.

pre-Calc

I feel a lot less stress over doing my Pre-Calc HW after working 2hours with tutor. He breaks down the problem and ask if you understood. He shows examples, explains why certain steps are taken. Very patient, didn’t get frustrated not once. I enjoyed my session and will be scheduling again tomorrow it’s him soon.

Teas Math prep

Helps understand basic math problems that i forgot in high school and explains it in the most simplistic way. Tries to find out your weaknesses and stays on task from start to finish.

Extremely knowledgeable, kind, and patient.

I went to Bruce with a very broken foundation in mathematics. In such a short time this man has managed to teach me more math than all my school years combined. With every lesson I learn something new and practice old things to retain them. I get closer to my achieving my goals With every lesson. Bruce is the best tutor on the planet and everyone should hire this man. 5 stars!!!!

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Bruce is working with me to increase my TEAS test. He has worked with me for the past several weeks and has helped make learning easy. When I’m confused has found a way to help me understand. He gives me practice sheets in between our sessions and this has helped tremendously. If you are looking for someone to help you increase your scores in standardized tests or for a particular class, he is the one!

Excellent Algebra Tutor

My 14 year old daughter has been working with Bruce over the last 2 months, 7 sessions. He has been so valuable to us and the only one to make any progress with her. He spends as much time as she needs and often stays for hours until she understands the concepts. He is calm, prepared, and has a positive attitude always, truly a lifesaver for us. We hope to continue to have him throughout these next tough high school years. Thank you, Bruce.

Geometry

Mr. Bruce was very helpful by being patient as well as his interaction and the willingness he showed with helping my son worked through problematic equations. Within the first 30 minutes I noticed my son had already gained some confidence that he was lacking prior to meeting Mr. Bruce.
