About Jacqueline

I am a fresh, energetic and experienced teacher looking to tutor elementary school, particularly in the areas of Special Education and Intervention. I strongly believe in a teaching environment that promotes learning. I think this can best be accomplished in a classroom in which the children feel at home and are unafraid of mistakes. Each child should feel part of a team, supported by their teacher and by their classmates. I have had felt the greatest satisfaction watching with pride, a child making strides in his academic growth and social development and knowing that I had a role in contributing to this self-confidence through my guidance and support. My goal is to help students to love school and to believe in themselves.

A school teacher is entrusted with young, impressionable minds. Teaching is an invaluable trust, which brings with it the responsibility to encourage inquiry, imagination and creative thought as well as the responsibility of instilling self-confidence in these young minds. One of the most important roles of a school teacher is to guide young students through many new experiences and realities with a positive attitude and an open heart; every child deserves this. I think children should not miss out on using and appreciating their own imagination and exploring their world with valuable curiosity. Inquiry is the best way to encourage education. Albert Einstein once said, “It is a miracle that curiosity survives formal education.” If a student is not free to question and imagine, they would be missing out on an essential element of life. I am determined to create inquiry within my teaching and to encourage each child to be original in their own way. As expressed by Jean Piaget, “the principle goal of education is to create men who are capable of doing new things, not simply of repeating what other generations have done – men who are creative, inventive and discoverers” (Swiss Psychologist, 1896-1980.)

I'm a Literacy Specialist B-6 with a Post-Masters in Special Ed 1-6, Elementary Education 1-6

As a Literacy Specialist, I have received several trainings in important intervention programs like: Leveled Literacy Intervention, Wilson Phonics, Fundations, Words Their Way, etc.

With my passion in education I am committed to helping students feel successful and confident. They will become life-long learners and look forward to our lessons together. I customize instruction and materials around the student, use date driven results and strive to have a strong communication between myself, the students and the family. My wide background in skills and work amongst different settings has allowed for me to become a balanced and knowledgeable teacher and specialist.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

In my elementary education degree I received the necessary pedagogy and strategies needed for teaching all main general education subjects: math, ELA, science, special education, social emotional/peer skills. I have been trained in several curriculums and programs, some of which include: Stern Math, Investigations, Every day Math, Words Their Way, Teacher's College Reading and Writing workshops, Wilson Phonics, Fontas and Pinnell Reading system, SRA, etc.

Phonics

I have a Masters in Literacy Education. In this MSED I was trained in reading comprehension, reading accuracy, fluency, vocabulary, phonics (decoding, encoding, and phonological awareness,) writing, and grammar.
