Hi, I'm Maria and I am an elementary educator. I graduated cum laude in 2002 while raising my five children who are now on their own. I tutor because I find gratification in helping students who need extra support to find success. I have been a tutor at the school I work at. I worked for three years with two foster girls who had academic and behavioral issues and needed to find success in school. They found it working with me. I love tutoring because I am able to work on the specific academic needs of the student. I adjust the instruction to the specific needs of the student.

I want help students be successful and enjoy learning. I create enaging lessons and use a variety of strategies to support my students. I have experience working with students with Invididual Eduational Plans (IEPs), ADHD, and specific learning disabilities. I am easy to reach and always provide fast responses. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson.

I use manipulatives in teaching math so that students are able to understand the concept . A variety of strategies are used to support student learning. I have taught second, fourth and fifth grade math in Virginia public schools.

I am lead science teacher at my school. I have taught second, fourth, and fifth grade science. I was selected to be a Teacher-Ranger-Teacher by the National Park Service and co-developed a 4 day science camp that Prince William Forest Park currently uses for fourth through seventh grade students during the summer.

I have worked with students from the kindergarten reading level to the middle school reading level. Being an educator I have over 15 years of teaching reading experience. Working with below grade level and readers I am successful at supporting them and having their reading levels increase. Making reading fun and engaging is what makes me succesful.

I have over 15 years of working with students identified with ADHD. Some students are medicated and some are not. I am flexible and patient with these students. I understand and adjust my individual instruction to meet the specific needs of the student.

As a professional educator I am well qualified to tutor elementary students. I have 18 college credit hours past my bachelor's degree in education classes that have increased my knowledge. I look forward to supporting students who need help to find success!

Patient and insightful tutor.

Maria is tutoring my granddaughter in reading. She knew how much time was appropriate for her, and when to shift onto something new to maintain her attention. She has insight and knowledge as an elementary teacher that has already impacted our expectations.
