Hi Everyone,
My name is Donna, and I am looking forward to meeting your student and assisting them with their learning needs. I have worked in some kind of educational field for most of my adult life. It is my passion! These experiences have taught me to really know how to better meet the individual needs of my students. I believe in meeting students where they are and providing activities that are engaging and that build confidence and motivation. Being a special education teacher for students with learning disabilities in a middle school setting has given me the ability to differentiate my lessons, to plan appropriate lessons whereby students can succeed, and to use the strengths my students have in order to overcome the areas they have difficulty with.
Additionally, I have taught study skills to high school and college students, such as notetaking, test-taking strategies, and time management; skills that students of all ages can use. I have worked with ESOL students (whose second language is English) individually and in small groups. I have even homeschooled my own three children through high school. The subjects which I can tutor are English, writing, math (through Algebra 1), science (through biology), history, and study skills.
I am excited to be able to work with your student, and to be able to assist him or her achieve success, to gain self-confidence, and to become the best that they can be!

I have many years of experience teaching and tutoring math. I can tutor Elementary (K-6th), GED, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra 1. I tutored students with learning disabilities in 6th grade math this past year. I adapted the math lessons to meet their needs and worked with their strengths so that they could succeed. I individually tutored an ESL student in Pre-Algebra and Algebra as well. Achieving success and building confidence is an important part my approach to tutoring math.

Reading has been one of my favorite subjects to teach. In the beginning, it is vital to make an assessment of what level the student is currently reading. It is important to make reading fun and interesting for the student. I have used many materials which are considered high interest for my students who are low readers. They get excited reading and working through activities which are engaging and appropriate for their level.

Phonics is a critical skill for the beginning reader. Phonics instruction teaches children how to decode letters into their respective sounds, essential for reading unfamiliar words. I have much experience tutoring children using phonics. It involves much practice; so my objective is to make this as fun and engaging as possible for the student. This is such a foundational skill. Insuring my students' success in learning decoding skills will give them the tools and confidence to continue to become excellent readers.

The subjects which I can tutor are English, writing, math (through Algebra 1), science (through biology), history, and study skills.
I am excited to be able to work with your student, and to be able to assist him or her achieve success, to gain self-confidence, and to become the best that they can be!
