University of Mary Washington (History)
Teaching is my world. I have been a middle school tutor for two years, and I have also worked closely with high school students preparing for their AP test and have taught a few lessons in an AP European History class. I graduated in the top 1% of my high school class and am a University student majoring in History who loves to teach and learn. History is my favorite thing to learn and I am the commonwealth of Virginia's current Varsity individual history competition champion. I am also the captain of Virginia's champion Varsity team from the 2014-2015 season.
I am also very passionate about French and love to speak and write in French. As a student in high school my teacher allowed me to assist her in correcting and proofreading my class' essays. Both French and History compel me to write a lot in my studies, and I am very well versed in writing skills.
I have also been awarded the Senior Departmental Awards for Social Studies, French, Biology, and overall the Most Distinguished Senior award from my high school.
I have worked with middle school students and focused primarily on math. I myself struggled through Algebra, so I understand the complications that it can bring and how to overcome them.
I love French and often speak it with my friends who are studying French as well. I have helped many of my classmates with French and I also have friends from francophone cultures that I enjoy speaking & communicating with. I believe learning a foreign language is immensely beneficial and can never hurt.
History is my favorite thing to study and I believe we have so much to learn from the past. I worked closely with my former history teacher in my senior year to develop lessons and teach a few of his classes over the year. I understand the various aspects of history and how all of these things relate, as well as having the ability to connect events, people, places, and trends.
I am a very passionate tutor and love to learn and teach. The exchange is knowledge is a very special thing, yet I understand its challenges and have faced many challenges myself. I have found however that with a bit of help, they can be overcome. My schedule is flexible and I am very excited to get to participate in the learning process. Teaching is my world. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
