About Taliah

I truly have passion for encouraging, motivating and helping students become better versions of themselves; I just so happen to love English, writing, editing/proofreading and pushing students to be better through the art of writing.

I have experience teaching a media course and Writing For Personal Growth course to high school seniors of the James Farmer Scholars program at the University of Mary Washington (during the 2014/2015 & 2015/2016 school years respectively) and I substitute teach in the Stafford County and Arlington Public school systems.

I earned A's in all of my English classes in college so I have had a natural gift for this subject for several years now. I won't just tell students why English matters, I will show them. They will walk away with high grades on their papers after I get my hands on them!

Students won't only get a tutor, students will walk away feeling more confident and inspired.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Grammar

I have a keen eye for pointing out grammar mistakes. As I proofread and edit copy, I find fulfillment in correcting mistakes and allowing an essay to flow so that the reader enjoys what he or she is reading. I do this through proofreading of family and friends' essays as well as my students' essays.

Proofreading

Proofreading has always been something that I've enjoyed doing. I have an eye for words, grammar and proper punctuation, as proofreading seems to be an effortless passion of mine. I am lucky to be regularly called on by my family friends to edit their college and internship essays, as well as online articles. I hop on any opportunity to make a piece of writing the best it can be.

Reading

As a child, I always enjoyed reading aloud in class and I consistently scored high scores in all of my English/reading classes. When I attended college I improved even more. While pursuing my bachelor's of arts, journalism degree I was challenged even more and earned all A's in my English classes. Although I didn't always enjoy reading, I learned to grow a passion for reading about things that interest me I became an even better active reader.

Writing

I can remember when I began writing as an 8/9 year old jotting down my thoughts in my diary. Ever since then I developed a passion for it and I have continued to improve and excel at it. I was published in an anthology of poetry as a Sophomore at Howard University and I continued to write as a freelance writer, and served as Editor-In-Chief for an online magazine for 2 years. Today, I share my writing and editing with the world through my personal blog and I teach a Writing for Personal Growth course for the 10th grade James Farmer Scholar students at the University of Mary Washington.
