As a teacher with over 20 years of classroom experience, I have had the pleasure of encouraging students to succeed to their highest potential through in class studies as well as after school time tutoring. I feel that learning not only encompasses work and dedication, but also the satisfaction and joy of reaching one's personal goals.
I am proficient in pre-k through middle school subjects. My objective is to help students reach their immediate and long term objectives, keeping them challenged, but not overwhelmed. I emphasize review and strategies personalized to each student and provide periodic review assessments and progress reports.
I have a Bachelors of Science degree in Education, a masters degree in education and am a certified teacher. My experience ranges from preschool through high school. During my time tutoring students, I have used instructional strategies such as differentiated instruction methods that involve scaffolding of material to break down information in a more easily understood format. Real life application of material is also another technique that I feel is important to helping a student to integrate and retain information. Summarization of material in smaller chunks as a student learns material and then applying that to new material allows them to retain knowledge.
It is important for me to have a good understanding of student's needs and objectives. For that reason, I offer a free brief consultation meeting with parents/caregivers and student.
Punctuality is important to garner the optimum experience and I will make every effort to arrive at our meeting on time. I would also ask that students honor this commitment for me and themselves. Cancellations must be made at least 2 hours ahead of the appointed time or payment is required.
I am happy to travel to within 20 miles of my home to tutoring locations.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have teaching experience in the pre-k and k level subjects, as well as substituting in the 1st through 6th grade levels. I have been a classroom teacher for 7th and 8th grade.
I have been a seamstress, am adept in crochet, knitting, embroidery, and have taught fashion and design for 15 years.
I taught full time in the middle and high school levels in basic and advanced nutrition courses. I am proficient with the My Pyramid USDA program. I am experienced in teaching nutritional science which includes basic chemistry and biology studies.
I have taught phonics in the pre-k and k lab classroom.
As a classroom high school teacher, it was required by the district to proofread and correct any written material handed in by the student. Also, while tutoring in the After School Program, I proofread, corrected and explained to students correct grammar, punctuation, spelling and vocabulary.
I have 20+ years of classroom experience working with international students. I recently have been employed by After School Plus in SC to tutor elementary age students in reading, grammar and writing. My TESOL experience includes working with multiple international students to improve English abilities in reading, grammar and vocabulary.
My sewing qualifications go back to childhood and throughout college courses such as fashion, millinery, etc. I have been a teacher of fashion and design for 20 years.
As a full time middle and high school teacher, part of the program was to teach basic study skills before beginning a course. Differentiated learning is a part of my expertise.
I recently was employed as a tutor for elementary age students which included teaching vocabulary. In that position, I was mentored by an educator with many years in the field which included vocabulary expertise.
