University of Mary Washington (History)
My name is Daniel, and I teach history, English, elementary subjects, SAT prep in reading and writing, and basic to intermediate guitar. I have always had a love of learning and teaching. In fact, I am currently attending college to become a teacher. Tutoring offers a unique, personalized setting that the traditional classroom does not. I am very flexible for time, pay, and location. Every person learns differently, so I am more than willing work with any student to ensure that that they have a tailored, positive, and successful learning experience.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been approved by WyzAnt in elementary math, elementary science, spelling, grammar, reading, writing, and a number of other subjects. I babysit elementary age children at least one a month, and I have experience in helping them with homework. I am also more than willing to work on a personal level with elementary students, since all students (particularly young students) have specific needs regarding learning style and speed. I am currently attending college to become a teacher.
While the University of Mary Washington history program does not require an area of concentration for the History major, I have chosen to take more classes with a focus on European history. I receive a 5/5 on the AP European History test after taking a course in European History in high school.
I have been playing guitar for 7 years. I have experience in rock, country, folk, and classical songs on both electric and acoustic guitar. I have taught several people basic and intermediate guitar skills, and I have received several professional guitar lessons. Though I am geared more toward teaching tablature rather than sheet music, I am willing to teach both. I love the guitar (I even built one myself), and I will work with a student to fit his or her needs and preferences.
Having attended school in Virginia for the last 8 years, I have taken my share of SOL tests. In high school, I received Pass/Advanced on all of my SOLs. I also received a 600 score on my US History SOL. I have found that teaching SOL material can be boring if done improperly, but my education in my Honors and AP classes in high school give me insight as to how to be a successful test taker.
