About Steve

From an early age I have had a love of mathematics and problem solving. I always knew I would pursue a career in mathematics. After obtaining a B.S. in mathematics with a minor in computer science from Lynchburg College, I completed a M.A. in mathematics from Wake Forest University with additional work in computer science. Fate pushed me into education, where I fell in love with teaching.

The first five years of my career was spent teaching college. From there I was fortunate to land my current job at a specialized school for math and science, teaching gifted high school students. I have been at that job since 1990.

I love sharing mathematics with students of all ages who want to learn. I also can help you with introductory computer science and programming courses.

I look forward to hearing from you.

I have great interpersonal skills and I am extremely patient. I have great relationships with my students, both current and former.

I look forward to working with you and helping you be successful in your pursuits.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Computer Programming

I have a Masters in mathematics and have taught courses courses when I was a faculty member at the college. I currently teach an Introduction to Computer Science I-II (college course) where we use Python and C++ as the programming languages.

Differential Equations

I have a Masters in mathematics and have taught Ordinary Differential Equations courses when I was a college faculty member.

Linear Algebra

I have a Masters in mathematics and have taught Linear Algebra courses. Also, my Master's Thesis was in numerical linear algebra.

In addition to my teaching duties I am also my school's network administrator, which consists of setting up and maintaining 6 servers (DHCP, DNS, AD, File, WWW, Anti-Virus) running in a virtual environment.
