Hello! My name is Phoebe M. and I am an ABA Child Behavior Technician in the DMV area. I am a recent graduate of VCU School of Medicine's Post-baccalaureate Certificate program and the College of William & Mary's Honors Neuroscience department. I am taking this year to apply to Psy.D. programs in Childhood and Adolescent Psychology, as well as taking time to tutor children of all ages and learning abilities from preschool to 8th grade.

I have been providing 1:1 tutoring to a small number of children since June, and would like to expand my student base as I still have a good amount of free time. As a person who lives with medication-managed ADHD herself, my teaching style is fun and creative, yet responsible and effective. I also believe that learning without having fun defeats the purpose of learning - because shouldn't learning always be a new adventure? With my history of exceptional grades and my unique understanding of the developing child's mind, I believe that I can help your child unlock their mind's capabilities in exciting ways.

The first thing I tell a student is to never be ashamed of needing extra help. We all need help in our own ways, and needing help in your way isn't any different than a friend needing help in their own way. There is also a right way and a wrong way to teach; I believe that our modern educational system is outcome-oriented - which rarely works in the long run, and is part of the reason why U.S. students continue to rank lower and lower on the world stage. However, when learning is geared toward the sake of learning, e.g. children learn because they are interest-oriented instead of importance-oriented, scores actually improve. This is the kind of approach I take; by making learning fun, learning occurs without the stress, pressure, and eventual lack of interest that comes along with outcome-oriented learning.
