Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (Biochemistry)
I have tutored multiple subjects ever since I was a college student at Virginia Tech. I tutored calculus as a senior to other freshman students by helping them understand materials for their homework assignments. After graduating, I had the opportunity as a tutor to introduce chemistry to a rising high school sophomore and help a state department employee with algebra II. If the student has been provided with materials on the subject, I help them understand the material by working through exercises together, and testing them with quizzes. Otherwise, I use reference books from libraries to create my own lessons. My lessons usually include descriptions, explanations, examples and quizzes of the material being covered.
Usually my tutoring sessions have been one on one. I have also taught multiple subjects, including Biology, Chemistry and Geography as a Peace Corps education volunteer to a class of 75 freshman students in Malawi. In addition, I worked with the upperclassmen students by developing lessons to develop their computer skills. While an educator in Malawi, I learned that I can create a learning rhythm for all my students regardless of their learning style.
In terms of subjects, numbers are a foreign language that I have known from a young age. Solving for x sometimes feels like a job of mine. I have excelled in multiple math courses in high school and college. I am able to share my understanding of mathematics to all math lovers and few converts. As a biochemistry college student, I found microbiology quite helpful in understanding the flora and fauna living in the human body. Also as a college student, I watched my clarity in writing improve drastically. The writing student help center at Virginia Tech showed me tactics on improving my own writing- a form of expression I have come to cherish.
I look forward to hearing from you and answering questions related to ways we can develop great learning sessions.

Prakriti has been working with my daughter on Chemistry and she has been great. My daughter has learned from her and she is more comfortable with the subject.
Strongly recommend Prakriti.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I excelled in mathematics as a high school student. Although I taught chemistry, many concepts introduced in algebra 1 are integrated in chemistry and upper level sciences.
I excelled in mathematics as a middle school and high school student. My standardized tests scores always showed my mastering of math topics. as a biochemistry college student, I continuously utilized many math topics.
I visited the school's writing center many times during my four years at college. As the center helped me edit my paper, I picked up many ways to improve my writing and voice through proofreading.
I have seen my writing dramatically improve as a form of communication throughout college. The student writing center at Virginia Tech showed me ways to improve, edit my writing and polish my voice through techniques I will share with students I tutor. My writing has been published with an enviromental study abroad program I participated in at Fiji.
