I am a Special Education Teacher with fifteen years teaching experience, across all three levels of education. For the past nine years, I have taught high school courses including Active Physics, Algebra 1/Algebra 1 Part 1, pre-Algebra, Geometry, and Biology 1. I also have experience teaching reading, writing and math skills and concepts from grades K-8, and Basic Skills and academic strategies for student success. I am a former tutor with Huntington Learning Center. In addition, I am the current on-site administrator of educational testing for my high school's Special Education Eligibility process.
The specific value and joy of tutoring is that it is one-on-one. In a classroom, I cannot easily spot a student's struggles. However, in a one-one one situation, a student and I can better work together to identify what it is that impedes learning. I strongly believe in helping children learn how to turn overwhelming tasks into underwhelming chunks. Knowing that certain content or skills can be frightening and a great struggle, I am right there walking the path alongside him or her, sharing in the struggles and their victories, and helping the child to understand that the little successes do count, and are the building blocks to future success.
Fifteen years experience in dealing with a wide range of difficulties in learning math, both in the classroom and in tutoring.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
A majority of my student population struggle with ADD/ADHD.
