With three years of tutoring experience in all levels of high-school and introductory college mathematics, I know just how to help you or your student learn what you need to succeed in math. My past students have complemented me on my patience and my skill at reducing complex problems to simple, manageable steps, and at teaching them how to do it too! In my experience, there is no such thing as a "math" person or a "not-math" person; with enough time and practice--and the right help--everyone is capable of understanding and applying mathematical techniques. I enjoy working one-on-one with my students and watching them improve as the weeks go by.
I am available weekday evenings and Saturdays, and can tutor you and your student either in your home or at an agreed-upon public location, such as a library or coffee shop.
I earned my bachelor's degree in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science from Virginia Tech in 2014, and have since been working as a bookseller and a freelance tutor. While at Virginia Tech I worked as an Instructional Assistant in their Math Emporium for five semesters, tutoring my fellow students in precalculus, geometry, and several flavors of differential and integral calculus. I am also an alumna of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (Class of 2011), where I topped out at Multivariable Calculus/Linear Algebra (the latter is a favorite subject of mine to tutor) and did my senior research project in the Computer Systems lab. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In the course of earning my degree at Virginia Tech, I earned an A in both Math 3144 (Linear Algebra I) and Math 4144 (Linear Algebra II). I have also tutored several students in Math 1114 (Elementary Linear Algebra), both privately and through my job at the university's Math Emporium.
