In her country, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology from National University of Colombia’s Bogotá Campus in 1999.

In Colombia she acquired experience in rehabilitating adults and children with communication disorders. She also has more than ten years of experience teaching Spanish for adults and children in Brazil and in the United States in private tutoring, and nine years with WyzAnt tutoring. She has also worked in the FLEX (Foreign Language Experience) program in Fairfax County Public Schools, teaching Spanish language and culture to children in Elementary School. In addition to her experience she satisfactorily completed 30 credits at the graduate level in the program Curriculum and Instruction with Concentration in Foreign Language-Spanish at George Mason University.

In her lessons, she works on the four skills of communication –speaking, listening, reading, and writing, and she helps students learn and practice new vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar structures, and common expressions in different contexts. She includes a variety of cultural elements from different Spanish speaking countries so her students get familiar with their ideas, traditions, and customs in order to be able to communicate with native speakers from different backgrounds.

Mrs. Andrea plans to continue sharing her language and culture with many more students because she is sure that a foreign language can open a door to new ideas, knowledge, and people around the world.

Being originally from Colombia, South America makes me a native Spanish speaker. Besides English I also speak Portuguese fluently since I lived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for one year before coming to the United States in February of 2001. In my country I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology from National University of Colombia’s Bogotá Campus in 1999. In Colombia I acquired experience in rehabilitating adults and children with communication disorders. I also have more than ten years of experience teaching Spanish for adults and children in Brazil and in the United States in private tutoring, and seven years with WyzAnt tutoring. In February 2016 I completed eight years working in the FLEX (Foreign Language Experience) program in Fairfax County Public Schools. I satisfactorily completed 30 credits at the graduate level in the program Curriculum and Instruction with Concentration in Foreign Language-Spanish at George Mason University. In my lessons I work on the four skills of communication –speaking, listening, reading, and writing, and I help my students learn and practice new vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar structures, and common expressions in different contexts. I include a variety of cultural elements from different Spanish speaking countries so my students get familiar with the ideas, traditions, and customs of their communities in order to be able to communicate with native speakers about diverse topics. I recognize the importance of hard work when learning a second language. Some authors affirm that everyday conversational language can be acquired in two or three years and the more complex language abilities that enable speakers to comprehend academic texts and analyze or discuss more complex topics could take five to seven or more years. Effort and regular practice is needed when learning a foreign language. I am from Colombia but I don’t focus on “Colombian Spanish.” I help my students to be aware of the differences and similarities of all the varieties of Spanish in orde

Patient and reliable tutor

My daughter has been taking a weekly Spanish lesson with Andrea for about a year. She is in 4th grade, going to be in 5th grade soon. She didn't know any Spanish about a year ago but now she's gained much confidence and has a great pronunciation! Andrea is so patient, reliable and caring.

One of a kind tutor

For my son, freshman year Spanish was a really large obstacle to overcome and he ended up getting mostly C’s and B’s. So when he started sophomore year I knew he needed some help. After Andrea started assisting him, his grades went straight up to A’s. Not only that, but he also scored a 99 percentile on the NSE with her help. My son says she is incredibly patient if he doesn't understand something. Speaking Spanish is an important part to being better at the language, so he says be prepared to use Spanish almost exclusively during the session.

From an F to a B in a few weeks

We transferred to a new High School this year and my son started Spanish II very behind his classmates. Within the first two months of school, he already had a failing grade and we were thinking about dropping him back to Spanish I. I decided to see if I could get a tutor for him and found WyzAnt, and Andrea, through an Internet search. We started weekly tutoring and within a few weeks his grade changed from an F to a B. He enjoys lessons with her and has clearly benefited from her teaching style and approach. I highly recommend her as a tutor.

Patient tutor.

My son was struggling in Spanish class and I was desperate to find a tutor. I chose Ms. B. for a few reasons. She is a speech pathologist and she has some experience tutoring the students in Fairfax County school. She grasps the materials that school is teaching from and she knows where to emphasize. As my son took the lessons from her he became more familiar with the Spanish language especially listening and catching words when the sentence is spoken. He became confident and started to understand what is going on in Spanish class. He is a slow learner when it comes to the language but she has been very patient with him. He wasn't a top student but he could pass the Spanish course and I am really grateful to her.

Great Tutor!

My son was a senior in HS and having some issues with Spanish II. We decided to use Andrea for Spanish tutoring based on her location and her background. Overall we used her from Oct-Feb of his senior year...about 16 sessions. Andrea was excellent with my son and very patient. Her methods were very effective and becuase of their time together he increased his grade letter from a D to a B. My son really enjoyed working with Andrea and found her very understanding of what he needed to succeed. Both my son and I highly recommend Andrea for Spanish tutoring.
