About Asha

My name is Asha and I am a rising second year at the University of Virginia. My primary career interests are the fields of medicine and research. I love tutoring because I like working with children as well as peers to help them with their academic difficulties and help them enjoy what they are learning in school. Education holds a large place in my heart, and as a tutor, I would like to help others love what they are learning and help them discover their passions, whether, in science, math, technology, or the arts.

I have had two years of tutoring experience in elementary level math and critical thinking as well as SAT math and ACT math. I have worked with students ranging from kindergarten level, to the high-school and college preparatory level. I am also proficient in French, Hindi, and elementary proficiency in Italian. Math has always been one of my favorite subjects, and there had been some times where I did not particularly enjoy a part of the lesson just because I did not understand it. I want to be there to help kids love math and feel good about themselves, and to provide an encouraging helping hand with their studies. I have tutored elementary school kids in pre-algebra, and critical thinking as well as simple problem solving. I have taken math courses ranging from Algebra to Calculus BC and Statistics.

As a premedical student in college, I have taken statistics and biostatistics at the collegiate level and I have gotten near-perfect grades in the classes. I am proficient in coding in the R language, and proficient in data analysis, and can ensure that any student who needs tutoring in biostatistics will be able to grasp the subject.

My tutoring style can be suited towards visual and auditory learners, as I like to use the white board as well as discussion, so when I tutor, I will prepare to engage the students in discussion so that they feel comfortable enough with the subject to the point where they, themselves, can teach others. I am here to help students grow.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have taken the course as a seventh grader in Middle School and had gotten an A in the class, and then I proceeded to tutoring middle and high school kids in Algebra 1 and 2 for two years, while I was in high school.

Biostatistics

I have taken a college level Biostatistics course known as Statistics for Biologists, and I have received a grade of A on the course. I am currently a pre-med student at UVA pursuing either a biology or neuroscience degree.

Elementary Math

I have had three years of experience tutoring kids ranging from the age of 4 to high school. I have worked with basic elementary math as well as critical thinking. I have also had experience with kids in general as a camp counselor for two years, working with kindergarteners and first graders.

SAT Math

I have had expertise in tutoring kids in SAT math, as well as ACT math and other math subjects such as algebra 1, algebra 2, and pre-algebra. I, myself, scored an 800 on the SAT math section.
