I started with black and white film photography in High school which I continued into college. I then became a senior staff photographer for my school’s newspaper at James Madison University. At this position I covered an extremely large array of assignments. I learned from first-hand experience how to handle myself as a photographer in all situations of light, weather, location and subject matter. I photographed everything from animals, politicians, performances, portraits, spot news, and my favorite subject sports. I implemented a recording-system for the use of the newspaper’s equipment by the photographers which is still in use today. While at JMU I won a first place in spot news award in the Virginia Press Association collegiate photo contest and a first place in spot news award in the Society of Professional Journalists Region 2 Mark of Excellence Award.
