I demand a lot from my students and tell them exactly what they need to do in order to understand the material. I also tell them the types of behaviors which will result in failures.
I've tutored (Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, Calculus I & II, Statistics, Econ) for the George Mason University Athletics Department and have a record of tutoring students with diverse levels of comprehension and experience. I've been told multiple times by my students that "I wish my teacher had just said that in the first place." I firmly believe that most math and stat teachers are simply "bad" and that they don't remember what it's like not to know a subject.
I've worked at think tanks and have extensive experience with Excel and data manipulation. I highly recommend this skill to anyone in school or who works with large data sets (especially economic data).
I'm currently a PhD Economics student at GMU. I have a Master's in Economics and I have a B.S. in Economics with a minor in Finance. I also do economic & methodological consulting for researchers at think tanks who are not experts in economics.
For lessons, I ask that GMU students reserve a room at GMU. I can also meet anywhere in the City of Fairfax or further at the premium rate. I am also able to meet remotely using Oovoo which provides an easy interface for switching between the camera-view and the desktop-view. After having two lessons with Zachary, I was able to clearly understand concepts and terminology that I was having difficulty with prior to our session. Zachary had the ability to simplify concepts that I was struggling with in order to help me better understand the concept. After having Zachary as my tutor, I saw instant results and my grade improved tremendously. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is taking Statistics to use Zachary and in order to better understand Statistics. It was the best decision I have made to in order to pass Statistics.
Zachary has been an excellent tutor for me. He helped me to understand statistics tools and explained it in a very clear way that a beginner would get it fast and easily. I learned the intuitive explanation behind the t-statistic, standard error, and my coefficients in my regression. He also explained the meaning and the interpretation of an interaction term with a dummy variable in a regression.
I was very lost in terms of the interpretations of my regression results but now after Zachary's lesson, I am confident to speak about my results and write my thesis appropriately. I will always recommend him for econometrics and statistics tutoring!
Zachary replied to my inquiry for College Algebra tutoring immediately & met with me on the same day. He gives a $10 discount if you meet him at George Mason, which I did. He has access to quiet rooms that only graduate students have access to & he works the problems out on a white board like a teacher would- I find it to be very helpful. He also gave me permission to contact him by e-mail if I happened to run into a problem doing my homework at home, which I think shows his dedication to going above & beyond his duties.
No matter what my assignments have thrown at him- he knows exactly what to do & doesn't hesitate for a second to think about it. I'm thoroughly impressed with his math knowledge & furthermore his ability to pass it on to me with ease. I've attempted to take this course two other times & had to withdraw because I couldn't grasp the work. I'm now not only plowing through it competently, I'm even beginning to find doing math fun & I look forward to my tutoring sessions. I proudly recommend him if you need math help.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
