Hello! I am a recent graduate working as a staff accountant in sales and use tax for a tech firm in Chantily. I am currently working towards obtaining a CPA license in Virginia, having passed two of the four required exams. I specialize in GAAP, accounting cycles, and financial statements, but can also help with tax and auditing questions. I also can help with economics and finance, as I have a passion for these subjects.
I tutored accounting and economics in college and received many compliments for my dedication and ability to communicate with students. I firmly believe in repetition and breaking concepts into component parts with explanation in simple terms. I look forward to helping future business leaders succeed!

Ben is a great tutor and very knowledgeable. With his services I am able to grasp the concept and practice when I return home to make sure I fully understand the material.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently halfway through the process to become a certified public accountant (2 of 4 exams passed). I have two years of accounting experience working for a large consulting firm, specializing mostly in accounting cycles and financial statement analysis.
I have taken and passed economics courses at high school, graduate, and undergraduate levels, and have a passion for the subject in my spare time. I have read or am familiar with most of the fundamental texts, including those by Milton Friedman, J.M. Keynes, and Adam Smith, and am always looking to broaden my horizons further on the subject.
I have taken and passed finance classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels and have a passion for the subject and its real world applications.
I participated in Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, a program run by the IRS that provides free tax preparation for low-income families, for three years in college and grad school. I have just begun participating in another VITA program in the Washington, DC area. I have been certified at the advanced level for VITA tax preparation by the IRS for two tax years (2009 and 2012); this allows me to assist with a range of tax issues up to and including home and stock sales and capital gains taxation. I also took and passed three tax courses at undergraduate and graduate levels.
