About Victor

*** A Little Bit About Me ***
I have 5+ years of experience in IT (primarily Network Engineering and Security Operations) roles at two of Northern Virginia's largest financial institutions, a Fortune 50 technology company, and a large Federal healthcare agency. I am a graduate student about to complete a M.S. in Computer Engineering at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. I'm also enrolled in graduate coursework at the University of Colorado Boulder and at the University of Idaho through their distance learning programs.

In my past, I've earned a B.S. in Computer Science at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, where I was a TA and grader for two Computer Science courses. I took advanced mathematics classes (MTH 174, 277, 285, 286) at the Alexandria campus of Northern Virginia Community College during my summers in between semesters at the University of Virginia, and I also graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia, where I spent my eighth period blocks helping students at the nearby Holmes Middle School better understand mathematics and language arts; editing the In Brief section of the school newspaper, tjTODAY; and serving as a class council member.

The courses that I can help you with are: AP Computer Science, Foundations Computer Science (high school or college), Computer Networking (including Network Security), SQL, Java Programming, Linux, and most UVa. Computer Science courses.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Computer Science

I earned my B.S. in Computer Science at the University of Virginia, and I am currently working towards my M.S. in Computer Engineering at George Mason University.

Java

I tutored high school and undergraduate college students in the Northern Virginia and in Charlottesville for AP Computer Science and college level programming courses for two years. Java is the required language used by the AP exam.

Microsoft Excel

I built and designed reports in Excel on technology staffing data during a six month rotation at Freddie Mac. I have used Excel extensively since high school and have even programmed simulations of network algorithms in Excel using Visual Basic scripting.

Networking (Computer)

I worked for three years as a network engineer at one of Northern Virginia's largest financial institutions, and I am currently a network engineer consultant with a Fortune 50 technology company.

UNIX

I worked for one year in Web operations at one of Northern Virginia's largest financial institutions, where I helped develop the Unix shell scripts to install Apache and Tomcat servers.
