Hello and thank you for considering my tutoring profile!

I am a recent graduate from the University of Virginia, where I obtained my Bachelors in Sociology.

To this day, I still have a passion for the subject of mathematics & helping others, especially those in academic need. I am very organized, attention-to-detail as well as customer service oriented, so with every session your success is always my main goal! Though I love math I know that the feeling may not be the same for others, so I will strive to be patient and understanding with you, just as some of my favorite high school math teachers were with me, even when I had struggling times with the subject.

As far as experience, I have served as a math tutor before throughout my high school and college career. During the 9th and 10th grade, after school, I would provide assistance to some of my fellow classmates struggling with what our teacher had taught us.

While attending the University of Virginia, during my 2nd Yr., I volunteered through the college's volunteer center and served as a middle school math tutor.

Since high school, starting my sophomore year, I also had the opportunity of interning for the Federal Government at the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration, in Washington DC, where I was able to not only strengthen my social skills, but my work ethic as well!

I look forward to helping you succeed, and thank you again for your consideration!

Have a great day!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

During my academic career at Lake Braddock Secondary School, I was consistently awarded A/B Honor roll, recognizing my strengths in mathematics (pre-algebra, algebra, geometry). In my spare time, I regularly volunteered after school to tutor my peers in pre algebra.

My major at the University of Virginia is Sociology!

I love this subject because it enables me to sample the various environments and dynamic structures of different aspects of society- whether it be popular culture, family, violence or even the problems that plague our society today. When I use the term "sample" I not only mean learning what the professors have to dish out, but through these classes I have the opportunity not afforded to some of gaining perspective of different social worlds, I believe, an engineer, doctor or chemist would not be able to step outside their environments to understand. Taking sociology courses enables me to become a more well-rounded individual, not just on the college campus, but when it comes to applying for jobs out in the real world. Also, with sociology I can tap into different personal interests I have about the world, like family or violence, that I wouldn't be able to explore had I chosen a more pointed and technical major.

As of now I have completed the following courses to meet my major requirements, as well as satisfy my own personal interests:
•Intro to Sociology
•Sociology of Violence
•American Society and Popular Culture
•Sociology of Family
•Sociological Problems
•Atrocity, Trauma and Responsibility
•Sociology of the African American Community, and my personal favorite-
•Sociology of Emotions!

When I take sociology classes, its as if I am leaving my world behind and entering another, and I think that is important when it comes to surviving in America. We don't live in a one-dimensional society but one that is continuing to be constructed and re-constructed again and again by different points of view, historical events and political agendas. Sociology helps one keep an open mind about the world, since change is constantly happening all around us!

Volleyball is my favorite sport!

As far as experience, I have never played on a professional team, however the passion and interest is still strong. On the other hand, I do have experience "playing" the sport, starting back from elementary school when my class played against our teachers. In high school one of the games played in gym class was volleyball- and I've loved the sport ever since. During the fall semester of my 4th Yr. @ the University of Virginia, I had the privilege of taking a Physical Education course in Volleyball, where I was better able to learn/understand the basic rules and skills of the game, as well as subsequently sharpen my own skills. People say I have the height for the game (5'8"), and I believe I definitely have the energy. I even see myself as one day becoming a volunteer volleyball coach for a community team! My secret passion was to be a high school or college cheerleader so I definitely would have the encouragement and motivational skills to help others understand, play and hopefully love the game of volleyball as much as I do!
