University of California, Los Angeles (Engineering)
Tutoring is my full time job. With well over 20 years of teaching/tutoring experience, I doubt there are many tutors as patient, talented or effective as I am. I bring a lot more to the table than what you see "on paper" and am constantly told by my students how well I explain things. Though other tutors may be cheaper, I am more efficient due to my experience and explanations. After 5 lessons, one of my SAT Math students improved her Math test score by 140 points last year! Another went from a 620 to a 700 after 4 lessons with me. I have a degree from UCLA in mechanical engineering; my math skills are what got me through it. I was always a top math student in high school and college, and I am able to patiently show students more than one way to solve most problems. I get along well with younger people and am able to connect in order to explain math, which I know many students do not like. I am also effective with adult students who I know can feel awkward about material they have not seen in years. I was a full time high school math teacher and left that because my math tutoring business in the Los Angeles area became so busy due to my success with students. After that, I was briefly a community college instructor in Arizona, before I moved back to the Northern Virginia suburbs 8 years ago to be near my family again. I have been tutoring full-time for these past 8 years in the DC area. I can tutor all high school math including pre-calculus, trigonometry, geometry and Algebra I&II, 2 years of Calculus and beyond; plus SAT, GRE, ACT and other standardized test preparation. I can also tutor Physics and first year Chemistry.

Herbert has a very calm approach, is extremely knowledgeable, and has a tutoring style to match the student's needs. I look forward to working with him so that I learn the processes and formulas, but more importantly the concept behind each.
Herbert gave a jam-packed lesson of basic calculus topics. He uses graphs to get his point across. When you don't understand a reviewed topic, he patiently explains the "why", which is always good!
My son said this math lesson really, really helped him (and he doesn't say that very much!!) He had been struggling with the math section of his upcoming testing and the lesson really was of great benefit.
Herbert was great. His explanations were to the point and allowed my child to understand concepts clearly and thoroughly. He was engaging and made learning enjoyable!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been tutoring Algebra 2 since I was 14 years old because the kids sitting next to me in high school would ask me how to do different problems. I have a degree in Engineering from UCLA and my math skills are what got me through it! Most importantly I can explain the material well and make it easier.
I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering from UCLA where I actually used Calculus regularly in my upper level classes. I tutor full-time and it is fair to say typically three hours a night are with Calculus students, sometimes I tutor AB, BC or other forms of Calculus five or more hours in a day solving a variety of problems.
I am able to assist anyone with math-related questions to the College Level Academic Skills Test. I have an engineering degree from UCLA and well over 15 years of full-time teaching & tutoring experience. Thank you for you consideration.
I am able to tutor the math portion of the COOP / HSPT exams. I have an engineering degree from UCLA and well over 15 years of full-time teaching & tutoring experience. Since these tests are for admissions to Catholic Schools, I thought I would also mention I am a practicing Catholic. Thanks for your consideration.
I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering from UCLA and used Differential Equations in my engineering courses. I have also been actively working on problems and reading books on differential equations over the past few months and feel I understand them now better than I did in college.
I have tutored this subject successfully in the past. In the past I was both a faculty high school mathematics instructor and a junior college instructor. I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering and my math skills got me through it; that material is far tougher than discrete math, but more importantly I explain mathematics well.
I can effectively instruct all the math-related aspects of the GMAT. I am a former high school math teacher with well over 10 years of full time teaching & tutoring experience. I can also assist with some chemistry and physics. I have a mechanical engineering degree from UCLA and am comfortable with all math through and including Calculus. I am certified with wyzant to teach Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, PreCalculus, Calculus, physics and chemistry, as well as a few other topics.
I can effectively tutor the math and logic related questions for the GRE - I am a former full time high school math teacher and have years of experience with these types of problems. I am a full time tutor, this is not a part time endeavor for me.
I can effectively tutor the math and logic related questions for the MCAT - I am a former full time high school math teacher and have years of experience with these types of problems. I have an engineering degree from UCLA and have tutored all math through and including Calculus, plus physics and chemistry. I am a full time tutor, this is not a part time endeavor for me.
I teach a lot of physics and show students how to be successful even when they do not totally understand the concepts (sometimes that understanding takes time to sink in). Mostly I use mathematics to work towards the solutions to the problems and show the student how to also check units of measure as part of the answer.
I would be able to help any student with the math portion of the Praxis examination. I am a former high school and community college teacher who tutors full-time. I have more experience solving problems than most teachers, but more importantly my explanations are easy to understand. Thanks for your consideration.
Precalculus is like the alphabet to me and I explain it very well. I tutor PreCalculus on a daily basis.
I would be able to help any student with the math portion of the PSAT. I work with a lot higher level math most of the time, but explaining this sort of math is like the alphabet to me and I can make it that easy for my students.
I had a student improve her SAT math score by 140 points after five lessons with me; another went from a 620 to a 700 after four lessons with me.
I can assist any student with the Virginia SOL (Standards of Learning) tests in Algebra, Geometry and/or Chemistry and have extensive experience doing so. Thanks very much for your consideration.
I could help any student with the math-related aspects of the SSAT. I am sure this level of math and types of questions would be fun for me, so I figure I could make it fun for the student as well. Thanks for your consideration.
I am fluent in Trigonometry and have a variety of ways to show students how to check their work and understanding. I explain it well and pretty much know Trigonometry inside out.
