Bio

I am an alumnus of George Mason University. I was an English/Writing and Rhetoric major with a minor in History. I earned a 3.95 GPA and was involved in Pride Alliance and three honor societies: Tau Sigma, Pi Gamma Mu, and Delta Alpha Pi. I was the accompanist of NOVA Family Church of Heavenly Parent's Holy Community (FFWPU) for 7 years. Our Learning Center building will no longer be used by us.

I was the accompanist of NOVA Family Church of Heavenly Parent's Holy Community (FFWPU) for 7 years. Our Learning Center building will no longer be used by us.

I have restarted my role as an accompanist, alongside other accompanists and band members, at the Washington Times in the Arbor Ballroom for the Greater Capital region--DC, MD, and VA--where we will play/sing and conduct church service on rotating schedules. My philosophy of teaching is that emotional intelligence is just as important as regular intelligence. I learned piano from Mrs. Emiko N. in Nokesville, VA from 2009-2016 -- such commitment! I earned Superior ratings for Piano Solo from 2010-2016 as part of the NFMC's Junior Festivals, and I am a member of the NFMC as a piano teacher! I was a Third Thursday Thrillers book club participant from Feb. 2019 - Feb. 2021.

I will utilize all resources at my disposal to ensure that you have the skills necessary to ace that vocabulary quiz or write a top-notch essay. I love seeing the progress of my students. I am a published essayist and poet in Ursa Major Literary Magazine (FPHS) and a published poet in Volition (GMU). I am an avid Quora, Medium, & Instagram blogger.

I got a 505 on the VCLA, an M.Ed. exam, which is required of all M.Ed. students in Virginia. This is a certification/credential that boosts my ethos. I earned a 178 on the English Praxis exam, the other M.Ed. exam. The Praxis Subject Assessment is uniquely subject specific and required before starting one's internship in the Master's program. So, basically, I could more readily become a public school teacher, but I have chosen not to go down that path. For in-person students, I can tutor at my house or at the Montclair Community Library.

Composition (Music)

Composition (Music)

I have composed a few pieces using Musescore: "Black Storm Clouds," "Canon in D Variation," "Brown Earth," "Asian Waters," and one song, "God Is Kind to All of Us." These pieces are mostly in the intermediate level. I understand the music terms, rhythms, note values, dynamics, and so forth, while also being able to help you in creating lyrics if you want to create songs and not piano compositions. I'd love to guide you, your son, or your daughter in learning how to compose their own music.

Corporate Training

Grammar,

Grammar

I have grammar resources that we can use to improve your grammatical abilities. I can also help with formatting Works Cited pages, in-text citations, footnotes, MLA, APA, and Chicago Manual Style citations. We'll look at my writing examples and other people's writings to see grammar in action, while discussing certain aspects of the writings. We can also use practice tests to learn more about grammar.
Proofreading,

Proofreading

I can help you with style guides, citations to avoid plagiarism, understanding mood, tone, voice, style, grammar, syntax, word choice/diction, vocabulary substitutions/synonyms that are better for your essays, etc. I can look at your essays and give feedback/compliments/critiques/suggestions, because I did many peer reviews for my college courses. Major and minor edits will be stated, unless your essay is perfect as is!
Spanish

Spanish

I finished my Spanish sequence at GMU, SPAN 201 and SPAN 202. I learned a lot, and I have so much to impart on you, my student. We will have fun as we do either part of our 8-week sessions or the full 8 weeks: focusing on vocabulary, grammar, culture, writing, listening, speaking, and reading.

Elementary Education

Elementary Math,

I took AP AB Calculus in high school and got a 3 on the exam (grade of B in the class). Before that, I took Pre-Calculus, or Functions Analytical Geometry in 11th grade (grade of B), Pre-AP Functions Trigonometry in 10th grade (grade of A), and Geometry in 9th grade (grade of A). I will be able to help you with whatever you're currently working on in your classes by providing guidance, suggestions, and critiques, and/or we can work on materials that I have on-hand. We can focus on addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, word problems, probability, polygons, the concepts of area and perimeter, fractions, decimals, counting, measurement, solving for x, exponents, negative numbers, proportions, and so much more!

Reading,

Reading

I was involved in the Third Thursday Thrillers book club, and I was a member from February 2019 until February 2021. It was with many older ladies, and we all proved to be knowledgeable during the meetings. Besides the books we read in this club, I read the required texts for my coursework and many other popular books (e.g. NYT bestsellers, dystopian novels, fantasy novels, and young adult books). I may later join a different Prince William County book club that is located closer to my home. I have resources that we can use to improve your literacy abilities, including vocabulary, grammar, Creative Writing prompts, quizzes, multiple choice questions, and passages to read.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

We studied vocabulary every quarter in every grade in high school. We were so prepared to do well on any vocabulary section for the SAT. Now, much of my new vocabulary comes from articles, novels, and conscious definition discovery.

English

ACT English,

ACT English

Knowing whether a sentence is incorrect or already correct will be essential. Being able to know the author's clear purpose and main ideas will help you not only for test-taking but also for essay-writing in your future college courses. We will go over ACT English Practice Tests together, after you complete certain sections/questions by yourself without looking at the answer keys.
ACT Reading,

ACT Reading

I'd love to help your son or daughter with the ACT Reading section. Your son or daughter will need to do the practice tests that I assign without looking at the answer keys. Then, we will discuss why the correct answers are correct, as well as why the wrong answers are wrong. English can be very subjective, but we will work to discover the objectively more elegant yet precise answers.
English,

English

I was an English major with a concentration in Writing and Rhetoric. With English, I'll be able to help you with whatever you're currently working on in your classes, but I can also provide you with materials that can improve your reading comprehension skills, critical analysis skills, and ability to write creatively, thoughtfully, and professionally. I hope one of my available time slots will work for you and/or your child, as I can't wait to get started with you, your son, or your daughter! If you have nothing to work on from your academics, we'll learn from examples of my own writing with discussion questions, and I'll also challenge you to write essays, poems, journal entries, and/or short stories, while also going over multiple choice questions and the reasonings behind why the correct answers are correct.

Although my specialization is not in Literature, I have taken several courses in this genre of literature at George Mason, including a Toxic Humanities/Theory & Inquiry course, a Dimensions of Writing and Literature course, a Fields of English course, an Advanced Composition course, a Fieldwork and Ethnographic Research Methods course, a British Romantic Poetry course, and a Shakespeare course. I am confident that I can teach you how to incorporate quotations effectively, analyze themes precisely, and argue specific and arguable theses for each of your essays.

We'll discuss test-taking strategies (e.g. process of elimination, identifying patterns or themes within a set of questions and its passage to be able to get multiple questions correct because they talk about similar ideas, and focusing on a particular line or section of a passage and a few contextual sentences before and after that part).

PSAT,

PSAT

The PSAT is the precursor to the actual SAT, so if you're in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade, I'd love to help you with this particular test. Analyzing the idiosyncratic processes and connotative ideas of any given passage takes time, while knowing the grammatical and denotative meanings of words and phrases proves to be essential. I can also help with the PSAT Math section, which involves logical reasoning, solving for x, means, medians, modes, systems of equations, word problems, formulas for shapes, and so much more!

You'll have to do the SAT practice tests that I assign without looking at the answer keys. Then, we'll discuss which answers are correct, as well as why those answers are correct. We'll discuss test-taking strategies (e.g. process of elimination, identifying patterns or themes within a set of questions and its passage to be able to get multiple questions correct because they talk about similar ideas, and focusing on a particular line or section of a passage and a few contextual sentences before and after that part).
